No Stress Nail trim
This is how we do nail trims.
*No restraints.
*No collars or tie ups or tables.
When I worked as a vet tech my job was to hog wrestle and hold a dog down while their nails were trimmed. Thankfully I’ve learned a better way.
The nail trim is usually not the issue. Any animal hates feeling trapped. They panic and fight being restrained with tension and force. And then they begin to associate the nail trim with the fear of the force.
Train your puppy or dog to relax- and YOU relax. Give them a massage and some treats while you play with the feet and nails. Make trimming one nail your goal. You can do one nail a day for the rest of their life if it keeps you from getting tense.
And be sure you know how and where to cut. But I have to admit, I’ve gone too short before and they’ve yelped but we kiss and make up and then we finish up perfectly happy.
Pack Walk
Socializing = Sharing Space
We’ve been wrongly lead to believe that your dog needs to wrestle and race and rough house to be “socialized.”
When actually that can do more harm than good.
Your dog should be able to respond to you and be civil in the presence of others and not be over stimulated by thinking every dog is going to be a rumpus interaction.
This evening we began walking farrrrrr apart and gradually worked our way close together in close proximity. My clients dogs are putting in good effort to share space and we’re a joy to walk with.
I wish I had a camera on the faces of people we passed. 😳😳😳. 🤣🤣🤣
“I’m is... um .... Hi! ... cookie?.... skool good... I tired.

We just started this young German Shepherd in nosework last week. He is already finding a scented ball that was hidden while he was out of the room. Today we are teaching him to sit when he finds. This was his FIRST attempt. 🙌🏼
He is loving the challenge and his attitude is so much better with a job!
(He used to try to kill me) 😳
I met this naughty Aussie a week ago. He was acting like a rabid kangaroo 🦘down under whenever they encountered another dog, 🐕squirrel 🐿 or jogger 🏃🏽♂️on their walks.
But the owners have fully embraced their leadership exercises, learning to be timely and consistent with reward and corrections and here in their second lesson, we were met with several challenges in the street, and he did fabulously.
You’ll hear the owner ask “Can I pet him now???” 🖐🏼
ABSOLUTELY! Reward! Reward! Reward! 🙌🏼
A week ago this owner had to carry her new fearful and completely shut down Tibetan Mastiff in for training-because she refused to walk and was terrified of everything and would do nothing but curl up in a ball and hide.
It’s hard to be a strong leader when you have a very broken dog. Our compassion makes us want to just cuddle and comfort them.
But with just one week of confidence building, assertive training, this sweet pup is coming out of her shell and engaging with the world!
Mooi and Ninja are... helping???
This 6mo old German Shepherd has been with us for one week. His owner requested that we work on basic obedience, especially teaching him Down and Stay, and also going to Place.
He had been a little belligerent when expectations were not clear.
However as you can see here, that when communication is clear, even off leash, when our only form of correction is not getting reward-
he is excited about performing tasks.
