Well friends, Friends of Drake and Georgia is empty for the first time since starting January 3rd if 2021. Over the last few months we have intentionally started slowing down for a number of reasons:
1. We have had 20+ animals needing care for three years straight, sometimes up to 50 animals at once. This takes many hours, little sleep, and money. All of which comes from my bake sales and generous donations.
2. We took in three dogs this year that will be residents, meaning they are unadoptable and will be lifelong members of our family. Each animal I commit to is a lifelong commitment, meaning for the duration of their life they will always have shelter in my home (adopted and returned, rescued and sick, etc.) and we now have zero open kennels.
3. We’re mentally drained. We have rescued over 100 animals in the last three years. This is nothing astounding to an animal shelter, but being privately run from our home, funded by us alone and putting hours upon hours into fundraising, no volunteers… we’re so exhausted. We’ve seen such horrible cases of neglect, cruelty, abuse, and so much sadness. Our hearts need a little rest, and so do our bodies.
This is not forever. This is not goodbye! This is “I’m really tired and need a rest, let me take a break and I’ll see you soon.”
With that being said, a break from social media is warranted. FODAG will return in the near future once we replenish funds, our mental and physical batteries, and our spirits.
See you soon, friends. ♥️🐾
