Holiday pet preparedness checklist!

1. Assure that boarding or pet sitter arrangements are made now if you will be traveling over the holidays!
2. If traveling with pets, create your pet packing list now! Make sure you include your pet's medications, health certificate, microchip number, and a photo of your pet!
3. If flying, make arrangements for your veterinary-issued health certificates and vaccines now!
4. Assure you have plenty of pet medications, supplements, and pet food to get through the holidays!

November is National Pet Diabetes Month! Do you know the signs of diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats?

A diabetic dog or cat may show increased thirst and/or urination, cataract formation, weight loss despite increased hunger, seizures, urinary tract infections, liver enlargement, and kidney failure. If left untreated, diabetes can even lead to coma or death.

🦟 Did you know that Lyme disease-affected pets do not develop the classic bullseye rash seen in humans? In fact, many pets show no signs at all, or their signs are often vague and nonspecific, which sometimes results in an incorrect or delayed diagnosis.

Lyme disease testing (i.e., a blood test) is advised for pets with clinical signs that include fever, lethargy, appetite loss, swollen lymph nodes, intermittent lameness, and painful or swollen joints.

Because Lyme disease signs can come and go, or be entirely absent, we recommend dogs be tested annually for tick-borne diseases, which involves a simple blood test similar to their yearly heartworm test. Protect your furry friend from this debilitating condition by contacting us! 🐾
