Just a quick video so everyone can see how well Solomon is doing. He is adjusting well. He actually seems like he feels great. We have noticed that he is grazing more than he ever has. We wonder now how long the tumor may have been causing pressure. We are just so glad is he doing good!

It is suppose to be the hottest day of the year. Tim and I put out extra waters under shade trees yesterday. Pray all the horses stay in shade and stay hydrated. Thank you Caydan for grabbing this video for us

Blessings!

08/18/2024

I will make it a point to get up at 6am to soak in all the joy the horses were having this morning. Mack went wading in the pond. Abby, Maverick and Shiloh went swimming. They of course came out of the water as soon as I got close enough and pulled out my phone. All the colts were running and playing like little stallions especially the wet ones. So much nature and happiness going on around us that it truly feels like a slice of heaven on earth. To anyone who comes to visit. A sunrise watch of the horses will be a must. You will be blessed! I definitely was.

King Solomon is doing great today! Let me clarify, Solomon is doing great! He is actually feeling better than ever. He feels good! He doesn't even act like it's bothering him at all, thankfully!

We locked Mack and Lilly up last night and left Solomon with the herd. We both were up to 2am making sure everyone was good. It was calm and peaceful. We both got back up at 6am to check again and went straight to feeding. We removed Solomon's wrap this morning as instructed as it was already starting to hang down close to his other eye as they expected. We let Mack out and everything was normal! He realized it was Solomon.

I will not be going live today but will make a few post. We have had a long stressful week and I am mentally exhausted from negative and rude comments, statements and questions.

Someone told me it's a public post so I'm entitled to my opinion. Just know it's our rescue page so we are entitled to blocking. I know Tim and I always give our best to the horses.

I know our established followers know the quality of care we give the horses and they stand behind us.

Most also know that I am a mama bear when it comes to these horses. I will always be their voice. But also know that just because we share the horses and the rescue to social media does not give anyone the entitlement to be disrespectful to us. We volunteer our time but are often talked to like we are hired help not doing our job well enough. We are intelligent people. We are dedicated. I don’t think many people would voluntarily stay up until 2am and get back up at 6am to ensure the horses are doing well. I will always stand up for us and any other rescue that I follow because I know how much hard work and dedication it takes and no one needs to be belittled by questions like we have no intelligence. I personally do not know many others if any that work as hard and dedicated to horses as Tim and I are.

If you do not know why Solomon had surgery please look at previous post to help save us time and Dawn from answering a lot of questions. If you are a follower and can answer questions please feel free to. We would appreciate it.

His incision area looks great. And yes we discussed with Dr. Major that we would not have a fly mask until Monday. He said that is fine and sent silver spray home with us and we will keep fly spray on him. We thankfully do not have an issue with flies currently.

I think we will find some of our favorite little people today and take some time off and maybe a nap. I know part of my lack to tolerate right now is due to two nights of 4 hours of sleep.

fyi-I have made some post only visible to the subscriber group and turned off commenting to some other post.

King Solomon!

If you ever wondered how big a Belgian draft horse is, this should help. You can see his head compared to mine.

I have received the question more times than I can count asking if Solomon's eye was removed. I hope this post will help.

I do not like being in photos but I actually asked Tim to take a couple of photos of Solomon and I and Mack and I in one of my favorite spots on our property. We were even able to get a backlit golden hour "magical" photo of Solomon and I that I will always treasure and will add it to my rescue wall that we have created in our home. I actually considered removing Solomon's scars from his nose and where his hair has grown back white due to injuries but I decided that is all part of him and the way I would want to remember him. I actually would have never shared these if it weren't for what he has recently been through. I just wanted the photos for myself of a horse that often brightened my day with kisses.

These photos were taken before Mack and Solomon were buds so I couldn't take photos with the two of them. Solomon and Hank were best friends at the time of these photos.

the Photos-
I'm glad we coincidentally took the photos of his right side that he just lost to cancer. It's symbolic of the reason he came to our rescue. Had his eye not been cancerous he would not have ended up at our rescue because that is the reason his owners discarded him. He would have likely been worked until he was near death.

So yes, I'm sad he lost his eye but it also means he gets to live. He is just as stunning to me and always will be. I think it's a great time to honor Solomon and share his photos. This was April 2023 when these were the only two draft horses at our rescue. I would have never thought we would be blessed with 8 draft horses to love.

If you know Solomon you know he loves kisses. One of my favorite reels was Solomon giving me a kiss. He is the only horse that does this. He also loves receiving kisses.

This reel was the first time we took Solomon and Hank to the park (on our property). We were treating them to green grass. He randomly walks over to me and gave me a kiss. He is so sweet. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/DVjGqXvkLN1nEb6E/

We are thankful and blessed by everyone who made it possible for Solomon to have the surgery and to come back home.

We will have to wait for the results from pathology to see if all margins were removed. This will determine if f he receives chemotherapy or other type of treatment. Please keep him in your prayers.

Look what Caydan has accomplished already! Roy Rogers is now addicted to German muffins! They said Roy would grab the apple treats and run but with the German muffins he would take a little and instantly want more.

Roy is the newest intake from Last Chance Direct Ship. He has a 2022 BLM title. He belongs to Caydan who is working at our rescue. He expressed desire to get a BLM horse to train. I saw Roy listed and he was suppose to ship that day. We were excited to help make it possible for Caydan and Roy.

"Live" moving Roy over to the neighbors property. He will be able to see the minis at the house and the neighbors' horses. August 17, 2024.

Click here to read! The King has left the building. King Solomon is headed home and my world feels complete again. We love each and every follower who has prayed and donated to his care. This was only possible because of all of you. Thank you! Back story-Solomon was bailed from a kill pen Jan. 2023. He arrived with 3rd eyelid cancer which we had removed the first week. About 6 weeks ago a cancerous tumor appeared overnight. He has been at Texas A & M large animal clinic since Tuesday. Today is Saturday. They unfortunately had to remove his right eye to help prevent the cancer from returning. The tumor was attached to the eye. He did great during surgery and everyone at A & M told us he’s such an amazing sweet horse. We agree! We will wait for the pathology report to determine if he will receive chemo. He still has full vision in his left eye and will adjust. He would not have to survive if they would have left the right eye. The surgeon, Dr. Major said surgery went great and he felt good about it and believe they were able to get all margins. We are thankful he can continue to live his life that he loves and we are excited for him to see his herd!

I'll be feeding for a while but will check comments after.

How happy would many be if we were able to purchase this trailer? Not only does it have a loading ramp but it also has an exit ramp. The price is $16,500 and I’ve already asked if that price is firm. Owner said it is firm. We believe we could sell our two trailers to cover close to $10,000. We are considering it. We think it would be nice having the two ramps. At least a side escape door.

Any thoughts? It is a 2006. Our current trailer is 2007. The cost of new trailers are way out of budget for us. Please feel free to help us search. We will have it inspected before purchasing. Our family owns a truck and trailer repair shop.

We are not set on this particular one and appreciate anyone searching for some that have the two ramps. We can only use a bumper pull at this point. Our truck is not big enough to pull a goose neck trailer. Although it would be better for hauling draft horses which is why we haven’t pursued a different trailer yet. We would have to purchase a new truck before we could get bigger trailer or a gooseneck. Our truck can't pull a lot of weight.

Also a cattle trailer or stock trailer is too short for the draft horses. My goal is an enclosed where we can add air condition. It is too hot in Texas and sometimes we can only get them in during the middle of the day.

Maybe we just should just wait until we can get a bigger truck?

UPDATE! 2:22pm CST
The King is out of surgery!

Dr. Major just called and said he was a really good boy for the entire procedure. He also said everything went really well and he feels good about it.

They did NOT have to make a fancy flap/skin graft and were able to successfully close the area. He said we will know more once they received results from the biopsy. He does feel really good that they got all the margins!!!

He also is not wanting to do chemo unless the pathologist's have doubts that all margins weren't removed.

Our prayers now is that he eats, and defecates normally and for min. pain. Then he would get to go home tomorrow!

Prayers have been answered! We are so thankful to everyone for praying. We will be able to visit him in an hour or so! I am so excited and relieved!

08/16/2024

1:46pm CST August 16
He is in surgery! Please pray! We never received a call. I called to see if they could give us a time so we can make a plan for other animals. She came back to the phone and said he has been in surgery and will be out in 30 minutes. We will keep you all updated.

08/16/2024

UPDATE-Friday, August 16th at 10:32am CST. Our morning visit with King Solomon. He was excited to see us and to have his hay from home.

Surgery has been moved to this afternoon. We do not currently have a time but was told they will let us know. They had an emergency this morning so his surgery was delayed.

Things to pray for please. Please pray that Solomon's pain is minimal. The surgeons hands to be guided. That all cancer cells are removed from his body. They have to remove the skin/tissue that the tumor is attached to and the surgeon is concerned if he will have enough to close that area and may need to graft skin from somewhere or leave it open and keep it bandaged. Pray for Solomon to have peace when we're not there and that he can go home soon. Pray that we have help to care for all the horses and animals at home so we can be here for Solomon.

Pray that all needs are met for him. We are thankful that so many people who love and care for Solomon and us. We are blessed by our village of family that care for all of the horse and Tim and I. Thank you!

Photo with our boy before surgery!

Surgery has been delayed due to an emergency. They did not give us a time but it will be sometime today. Tim was going to head back once we checked on him after surgery but he may not be able to stay now.

Solomon was excited to see us again but he is very antsy. I begged and pleaded that someone walk him or let him out in one of the paddocks to graze. They said they can make that happen so pray that it does. He has been locked in that stall since Tuesday morning.

Everyone that has met Solomon has said he's such a good boy! Thanks everyone for loving him and for praying.

Trauma! We have mentioned many times that King Solomon has a fear of trailers. He has definitely improved.

I am posting in hope to help everyone understand what we mean.

For months after Solomon arrived this is what he would do if a horse or cattle trailer would drive past the rescue. Yes even if they were just driving by at 50mph. It clearly isn't just loading.

Many people have made a lot of suggestions to help him load into the trailer. In this video, Tim had just pulled up but park along the road to unload Hank so we didn't scare Solomon even more. Hank had been to the vet.

Solomon is clearly terrified. We do not know what happened. When a horse enters the slaughter pipeline they could be subject to a dozen trailer rides or more. They are being ran through one auction after the other until they are unloaded at a kill pen which is the last chance to get bailed. Not many people want Belgians because they are more expensive to feed.

It's sad to watch the loading and unloading of horses at auctions and kill pens. There are some on YouTube if you'd like to watch. The horses are scared and confused. Can you imagine not having a clue what is happening. You are ripped away from people you know and don't have any herd mates. If you watch the video you will witness horses constantly looking for a familiar face. That alone would cause trauma but I believe Solomon's fear far exceeds that.

I knew you all would be glad to know that Roy has his own private stall for the evening. This mama’s heart always instantly wants to do what I can to protect them. I asked to pay the extra to have him moved to a stall with some alfalfa and water until he can be picked up tomorrow. Just want to make sure he isn’t getting picked on. He already has so many cuts and scrapes.

Solomon Update-12:45pm, Wednesday August 14th

Surgery is scheduled for Friday, August 16 at 9:30am

We have good news and bad news but it could have been worse.

I just spoke with Dr. Easterwood. She is very kind and does a thorough job of explaining everything which I appreciate.

Bad news first-She said the tumor is wrapped around the eye. He will unfortunately require surgery to remove his eye which gives him the best possible outcome. I have cried about this but removing the eye will allow him to keep living and we are thankful for that.

Good news-The cancer has NOT invaded the bone. The is great news. Such a relief. I have been holding my breath to hear those words. It has also not reached the optic nerve. Which is usually the worse news as it invades the brain. These two things are a huge blessing.

We have asked her to schedule surgery asap so we can get him home sooner. The surgery will be standing so that is not as difficult on the big horses as anesthesia and lying down.

He will receive photo laser therapy and possibly chemo. I am still processing our conversation but thankfully recorded so I can play it back. I will share during tonight’s “live”.

Horses seem to adjust well after having an eye removed. She also said she’s very glad that we chose to do a cat scan as just the tumor removal surgery would have had him back in 2-6 months with a not good ending.

I would like to visit Solomon and am trying to make that happen. Texas A & M are going to let me know ASAP when they can do surgery so we can schedule when we’re able to see him to reassure him that he hasn’t been abandoned or left alone. I am not sure what time we will go live as we may be driving to see Solomon. If not today then we will tomorrow. I would like to be there when he wakes up from surgery.

Thank you so much to everyone who has been praying. Keep praying please. Thank you to everyone who has donated to make this possible for King Solomon so he can continue to live the love he loves!

I will keep everyone updated on this post. So come back to this post for update on when surgery is scheduled.

We just bailed a horse! (Posting now to help distract me with Solomon)

This BLM has taken a beating or was trampled in the trailer which tugs at my heart.

The 16 year old young man Caydan who has been working at the rescue has been a huge blessing to us. He has expressed that he would love to find a BLM horse to help and work with taming. I came across this poor gelding and felt it was meant to be. Added a video of Roy to the comments

We told Caydan he can work to pay for the horse and his transportation. He has already named him Roy. If you would like to help bless Cayden with any expenses, I'm sure he would appreciate it but he didn't ask me to post. We are just happy that he has the heart to want to rescue a horse.

If you do decide to help Cayden, just make sure to let me know or put Roy in the notes. Roy will be quarantined at our rescue. He will be picked up tomorrow and delivered.

We are excited to help this young man have his own horse and excited to see what he accomplishes with him. He is a hard worker

Solomon is currently going under anesthesia at 10:15am on Wednesday, August 14. Now is the time to pray please. Pray that the cancer is treatable and that he wakes up from the anesthesia without struggle. It's harder on the Belgian/draft horses. They said they will call once he is awake with preliminary findings. We will update as soon as we have one. Thank you for praying.
