When it comes to affection, most cats prefer to be touched on the head and neck. Your cat may become upset and even aggressive when attempting to touch other areas. Learn more about how to handle your cat at https://bit.ly/3KnihFo.

Our Story

Dr. Yasmin Mahmood is a licensed and accredited Veterinarian certified in Equine and Canine Trigger Point Dry Needing Therapy, and Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist. Myofascial Pain Syndrome is a painful condition that results from sensitive taught bands in the muscle called myofascial trigger points. Myofascial trigger points are caused by injuries, overuse or misuse of muscles. Myofascial trigger points will generate pain, restrict range of motion, reduce muscle strength, and cause muscle dysfunction. Myofascial trigger points can exist for years and contribute to performance limitations, lameness and pain. Dry Needling is an effective drug-free treatment for myofascial pain. Dry needling has been used in humans since the 1940’s but is a relatively new treatment in veterinary medicine. Modern trigger point Dry Needling therapy evolved from the work done by Dr. Janet Travell, the first female White House physician of President John F. Kennedy. Travell treated President Kennedy with Dry Needling for chronic back pain and is credited for relieving him of his crutches and successfully treating his chronic pain. Dry needling is a process in which the myofascial trigger point is palpated and a very fine, solid filament needle is inserted into the myofascial trigger point. A local twitch response is elicited when the trigger point is stimulated. This allows the shortened muscle fiber to relax and increases the blood flow to promote healing and restore muscle function. Although both Acupuncture and Dry Needling use similar needles, Dry Needling is not Acupuncture. Myofascial trigger points occur in dense clusters and can take several treatments to maximize the benefits of Dry Needling. The procedure is generally well tolerated and the peak results are seen in 7-10 days post needling. If a competition or event is scheduled, it is recommended to perform Dry Needling treatment far enough in advance of the event as there is a normal soreness period post needling for 2-3 days.
