Lyons Township Dog Training Club LTDTC offers a variety of levels of classes in training people and their dogs in obedience, agility, and rally. All are welcome to train with us!
(2)

First, we are a non-profit organization offering training for purebred dogs and mixed breed dogs at all levels of experience from puppies to the seasoned competitive obedience dog. Second, we are an organization, a group of dog owners who love dogs and enjoy activities with our dogs. We sponsor and attend many obedience events both in the US and in Canada. Many of our members are involved in other

dog activities such as conformation, tracking, agility, herding, nose work, water rescue, search and rescue, Companion Dogs for Independence, and others. These members can put you in touch with organizations that train and promote these activities. Lyons provides a valuable service by teaching owners to train their dogs to be canine good citizens. We sincerely feel, in this time of rising anti-dog sentiment and media coverage focused on irresponsible dog ownership, a well-trained dog serves as a good example to others and is a joy to own.

Lyons Township Dog Training Club held their 8 dog Variable Surface Tracking Test on Sunday, September 29th at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb Illinois with judges Darlene Barnard and Inge Suchanek. Sunday reached a high of nearly 80 with mostly sunny skies at times, a bit cloudy at times and with some fairly strong winds, courtesy of the far-reaching effects of Hurricane Helene down in Florida.

VST trials are a lot of work and it could not be done without great judges and the help of our amazing volunteers. Darlene and Inge did a great job bringing their great tracks, excellent knowledge of the rules and fair judging practices and equally important, a great sense of humor and empathy and support for each entrant. We had great volunteers who cheerfully gave up a huge part of their weekend to plot on Saturday and then lay the tracks on Sunday and of course, walk the track with the entrant and their dog. We would like to sincerely thank tracklayers Vicki Prescott, Heather Green, Amy Rodgers, Gina Post, Dave Crawford and Nancy Fredian. Lisa Folz provided the invaluable service of getting tracklayers to and from their tracks throughout a complicated college campus. This is probably the hardest volunteer job of all! Nancy Fredian served as chief tracklayer, and Dave Crawford, in addition to laying a track, also served as trial secretary making the ex*****on look effortless. There were two kinds of homemade cookies and pumpkin bars, homemade monkey bread and club president Gina Cameron brought delicious homemade sandwiches, potato a salad and cucumber salad. The camaraderie was evident throughout the test! We had an exhibitor from as far away as BC as well as North Dakota and breeds as varied as an Icelandic Sheepdog and a Hovawart. We also had several Golden Retrievers, a couple Rough Collies and a Rottweiler.

Unfortunately, despite all we had going for us and heroic efforts by each dog and handler team, we had no passes today. We wish everyone the best of luck in their next tests and safe travels home.
