There’s something really nice about giving fish a natural setting and really watching their behavior and personalities flourish 😍 These Discus and Altum Angelfish are enjoying their aquarium that we tinted with some tannins before they came in. The botanicals have natural healing capabilities, as well as lowering the pH of the tank. The water parameters mimic their environment in the wild much closer, resulting in a happier group of fish!

Check out this massive Ripsaw Catfish! One of our longtime customers grabbed this guy from us about 5 years ago as a baby and grew it into a monster. Such an active fish as well, which is nice to see in such a large example of the species. A cool full circle moment for us when these big guys end up back in our tanks.

Otocinculus are a go-to selection for us when people mention they need something to things up, but they truthfully have such cool and peaceful behavior. They do amazing in all types of aquariums, but there’s just something about seeing a fish lounging out on some natural plants like this guy 🌿🌿 One of the first to show up when the food gets added to the tank too!!

What are some of the notable differences between this African Arowana, and the classic Silver Arowana we posted a few days ago?

For starters, they arent true Arowana at all! Most similar to an Arapaima, they are a species of bonytongue fish that can grow over 3 feet in length. They are widespread throughout Africa and sometimes collected for food, something commonly seen in our trade.

African arowana have a distinctive prehistoric look and unique swimming pattern in comparison to other species as well, making them a standout species in a large freshwater setup.
