Marlin's Journey Home
Just when all hope is lost....miracles like the one below remind us to keep pushing through:
Marlin was a frightened, big headed boy that took social media by storm when he escaped from his adopter in August 2023. He was a dog our shelter was extremely attached to, after he transferred into our care. Marlin had a rough life, was unsocialized and scared of the world. He spent months at our shelter learning to trust people, participated in our prison program to have one on one training and was finally adopted. Unfortunately, soon after being adopted he escaped from his adopter and managed to evade our rescue efforts for months. The last sighting of Marlin was a couple of months after his escape after several people thought they witnessed him getting hit by a car and limping into the woods. Months passed by and we thought we would never see him again.
Nothing prepared us for a call we received a month ago from Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic LLC, stating a dog matching Marlin's description wondered onto their property and they managed to catch him. His microchip confirmed that 70 miles and 9 months later he had been found!
While we were thrilled to hear Marlin was safe, injuries tell of the rough journey he had. Marlin has a series of injuries in his rear left leg that require an FHO (removing the ball part of his hip joint) and ACL surgery. The total cost of both surgeries is $10,000. We will get Marlin the care he needs to finally live a happy life, but we are hoping with your support we can offset the cost!
Update from our director: I am so sorry to say that Fuego, that is what we named the 29th Street Chihuahua, had a heart attack while under anesthetic for X-rays. It was a devastating episode, and the decision was made to euthanize him while he was still under anesthesia. I am so very sad... but I am happy he is not suffering anymore. Thank you to the Northview team for caring for him through his stray hold.
Last night our Director Greg got a call about a dog suffering from an injury in Lorain. Without hesitation he rushed to the scene to get the dog the help it needed. He was nervous, but trusted a good Samaritan enough to catch him. It appears that he has wounds from a possible muzzle embed, and will require medical care and treatment for the foreseeable future.
This little fighter is being called Fuego, and we could use your help with his vet bills! If you are able to donate, it is so appreciated!
