Our beginning obedience class is now full. We offered this class last minute because it took us a while to sign the lease on our new place. More classes will be offered in the new year at our new home: Union Machine Works on 2nd street in Oakland.

We announced this class last week and it is now officially full! We will have a lot more class offerings in the new year. Union Machine is the new home of all of our group classes: High Functioning Dogs, Brewery Dogs, and Canine Circus School.

Don’t let training turn you into a monster

Latest progress on the piggy bank trick.

Just wrestling with this 16 week Presa. What I learned training Bull breeds in the ring sports is; you can’t leave any scrap of talent on the table. Especially if their temperament package skews towards defensive aggression like this presa. Defense is fear, no one wants a big scared dog. This pup came in on a pinch collar, I told him to take it off and let that fat f**ker pull. We need opposition reflex to build drive. I told them wrestle with him so he relaxes with physical contact. Do you believe that BS about bite inhibition making dogs safe? I’ve raised so many pups and taught them to bite as hard as possible and they still had bite inhibition. Bull breeds have a tendency to snap you in the face to break the tension, if they ever do that grab them by the scruff and tell them no, headers die. Feed him less: slow growth is strong growth, fast growth is weak; do you want an oak or a eucalyptus. Make resources scarce so you have leverage, no one wants a spoiled brat. He won’t bite toys but will bite your laundry? That’s because you’re making the laundry scarce and the toys are being pushed in his face. He should beg for those toys. This beast is a legend! I’m so proud of her for nailing this. The slalom slows the dog down which is important because anticipation of the reward often upsets their ability to balance.
