It is with great sadness we report tonight we will have no honey for sale this year… we had our bee traps on to get all our little friends out of the 2 supers we were planning on harvesting… needless to say we waited a couple of days to long to take the supers and when we came back to grab them they and all the other bees from neighboring hives had robbed all the honey stores!!!! We are incredibly bummed out this year, but have learned another valuable bee keeping lesson- when you put the escape boards on be ready to harvest. Again, Our deepest regrets…

Hive checks are a must basically every week this time of the year. We patiently go through every frame in every hive making sure there are no queen cells, see what kind of brood patterns are going on, mite checks (and treatments if needed), and how much honey stores are left. If needed, we add sugar water to help the girls out. Springtime is super busy for bee keepers… 🐝🐝♥️♥️ This year the girls are close to the orchards in Emmett they are super busy working all the beautiful pollen available.

All placed and hunkered down in this snow!

Moving day (for a while)…in order to relocate our hives where we want them permanently on our land we have to relocate them more than 3 miles away for a while and then bring them back. The girls are getting a ride and a holiday in the orchards for a while 🤣🤣🐝🐝. (Plus, the painters will be happy they don’t have to navigate the bees while painting our storage shed 🤣🤣)

Queen spotting today!!!

03/13/2022

Worked through all the hives today. We lost one and have another we aren’t sure are going to make it. However, on the positive side, 5 very strong colonies survived really well!!! Tons of rainbow 🌈 colored pollen deposits in all thriving colonies. 2022 bee season has begun. Big things in store with the new property. Huge bee forage plot in the works, stay tuned…

Mite treatments have begun… Although Varroa mites can feed and live on adult honey bees, they mainly feed and reproduce on larvae and pupae in the developing brood, causing malformation and weakening of honey bees as well as transmitting numerous viruses…. Therefore it takes several weeks of treatments and various different treatments throughout the season in order to manage these little buggers…

Got cappings? Honey cappings are sometimes referred to as “Farmer's Chewing Gum.” It is sweet – due to the honey, and chewy like a yummy treat, due to the wax. Many people like to chew them and then discard the wax. Honey and its comb are edible and offer numerous health benefits, such as fighting infections and helping with allergies. 🍯♥️🐝. We have a limited number of 4 oz jars of cappings this year. $5 each get some while you can.
