New Favorite Day is a 501(c)3 volunteer-run nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to reducing the number of unwanted animals in and around Rains County, Texas by working to control animal pregnancies through spay and neuter initiatives, transporting animals to partner rescues, adoptions, and community engagement programs.

Dear Friends and Supporters of New Favorite Day,

Today, with a heavy yet hopeful heart, we announce that New Favorite Day will be closing its doors indefinitely.

For four remarkable years, we've had the honor of serving the Rains County community, providing shelter, care, and love to over 500 animals in need. Together, we've laughed, cried, bled, and celebrated many triumphs. Each tail wag, purr, and happy adoption has been a testament to the passion and dedication that you, our community, have generously shared.

However, like every journey, ours has encountered a crossroads. Due to several factors, we find ourselves needing to pause, reflect, and possibly regroup in the future. This decision has not been made lightly; it comes after much soul-searching and consideration of both the needs of our beloved animals and our own capabilities.

Our hearts are full of gratitude for every single individual who has supported our mission. Your kindness has turned ordinary days into favorite ones, not just for us, but for the many four-legged friends we've had the pleasure of helping together.

Though we are stepping back now, we carry with us the hope and intention to return when our situation allows. We believe in the resilience of this community and in the enduring spirit of compassion that has fueled our efforts from the start.

As we navigate this period of transition, we encourage you to continue advocating for animals in need. Your efforts make all the difference, and we know the seeds of kindness we've planted together will continue to grow and flourish.

Please stay connected with us through our social media channels for updates on our journey. We look forward to the day we can reopen our doors and embrace new favorite days ahead. We will continue to maintain our 501c3 status with this hope in mind, and if anyone would like to continue donations, they will be shared with our community and other Rains County Rescues with whom we shared this mission.

This is the face of a low-country sploot kabob, but we call him Benny.

Benny is the most playful troublemaker who would p*e in your cereal if you cross him (not that he’s actually done that), and then purr on your lap to demand pets.

He is a rough-housing jerk, is too cool to be held, but still wants his mommy to rub his tummy.

In all, he’s a giant pain in the t***y, and he demands a place in your home.

Adopt him today, regret it tomorrow!

Today we remember those we lost on 9/11. Our thought and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those lost.

We also honor the men and women heroes who helped save so many from this unthinkable tragedy. And we also honor the 300 service dogs who were part of the search and rescue leading a path for humans to aid and recover those injured and trapped. We are indebted for all their bravery.

The doggos couldn't stop wagging their tails, totally 'quacked' up by our new friend. But don't worry, this story has a feathery happy ending. Our little quacker found a cozy spot with some new bird buddies. 🦆❤️

On this 🥳🐶 NATIONAL DOG DAY 🐶🥳 we’d like to highlight Benny, who might biologically be a cat, but he 💯 identifies as a canine companion.

Benny is not a lover of being held, but he loves to trot along behind you as you complete household chores. He also loves playing with his canine compatriots, and playfully harassing the more cat-like kittens of the rescue.

His casts come off next week and he’ll be eagerly awaiting a home!

Oreo has been with us for almost 9 months and is STILL looking for the bestest home He watched all his friends get adopted at the MEGA adoption event last weekend, but was so nervous that he wasn’t his normal, happy self. 😢 Because he was so withdrawn, folks overlooked him. This video should give a better idea of his “best dang dog” personality ❤️❤️🩵🩵

There were 705 pets adopted in total!

Huge thanks yous go out to CTS and the Humane Society of North Texas who really made it their mission to find Jim a home. For the first time in his life, he’ll have a home of his very own tonight 😍😍😍

This weekend set us up for some large medical expenses, and 🐶 BENNY AND LOU NEED YOUR HELP🐱 Benny has been favoring his leg, which costs $290 for X-rays. Louisa, who came to us after having surgery to remove some lumps, has grown a baseball size mass on the back of her neck, along with a few other smaller lumps. Fly high, sweet boy

Not the outcome we were hoping for for this sweet boy that’s been living near our local nursing home. He’s been attacked badly twice in the last few weeks, and this last time was his breaking point. We tried so hard to help you. You protected your girlfriend so well, and she’ll miss you dearly. Fly high, with no more pain, sweet boy. 🌈🌈

RESCUE FAMILY, we need several miracles, and hope we can find enough partners to fully squash this hoard once and for all! TLDR: If 29 rescues would take a SINGLE dog, the Emory Hoard will be FULLY taken care of!! I visited the hoard again today, and it has admittedly been several months since I've been there. Sadly, more babies have been born, and we need to squelch this issue once and for all! There are roughly: 15 6-9 month old lab mixes 5 2-week old puppies and their young mother 7 8-12 week old puppies 2 adult mixes These are rough numbers, as the pups move around, but the most accurate I have. New Favorite Day will be working to spay/neuter our way through the hoard to prevent more puppies, but a life outdoors here is no good life. Most of these pups are scared, but not aggressive, just skittish, and young enough to form attachments. Love bites, excess hair, loud purring… what more do you want?

Disheartened -- Defeated -- Crushed -- Discouraged In the last 5 days, we've had 4 calls to return dogs - all adopted more than 2 years ago. For context, up until this week, we've only been called twice for returns this whole year. It's really a sucker punch, when we're already full, and so focused on moving forward, only to have to takes 10 steps back. All that to say, we're having an emotional week over here at New Favorite Day and would LOVE to see some cute photos to help us through this rough patch <3
