A new flock of parakeets has landed at L&L Pets!
These beautiful, yet small, parrots make absolutely wonderful pet birds. They are a bit shy, but with enough time, patience, and love they can warm up to people. Much like their larger parrot relatives, these birds can mimic their owner's words, learn to step up, and even be trained to fly back to their owner on command!
If you are interested in a few of these adorable birds, come on by! We are open from 10 to 6!
We've got some hungry Beardies eating their crickets! These little guys are really friendly and easy to hand train. We carry all the supplies you need to get a proper set up for them!
We have 6 adorable female gerbils looking for their forever homes!
Gerbils make for fantastic first-time pets. They have very similar care to hamsters, requiring lots of room to run and burrow, a similar diet, and the same sort of enrichment of toys to chew on and things to do.
However, unlike hamsters, gerbils are social! These cuties can be kept in groups! It's better to give them a friend to play with than to leave them alone. If you're looking to get multiple rodents for your kids, gerbils do much better than hamsters (as hamsters are solitary and will fight one another).
If you are interested in any of these girls, feel free to stop by! We are open from 10 to 6!
Despite the bikes, we are open! Wriggle in to L & L like these kuhli loaches or call ahead, and you can pick up your stuff through the alley way behind us! We'll do our best to get you everything you need!
We just had a huge flock of finches and parakeets fly in!
Finches make excellent pets. Compared to parrots and other birds, they are much quieter. Their diet is also relatively simple. Just remember to give them some pellets and vegetables alongside their usual seed and they should be good! Additionally, unlike parrots, Finches only live for 5-10 years. Much shorter than 50+ if you aren't wanting a long term commitment.
Parakeets also make awesome pets! Especially if you're wanting a parrot but you don't want one that gets huge or one you'd have to put in your will. Much like their larger cousins, they can be trained. These cuties can learn to come when called, sit on your fingers or your shoulders, and are generally sweethearts once they get used to you!
Just remember!
- Both of these bird species require having friends, so you'd have to get multiple!
- The bigger the cage the better! Room for them to fly around makes them happiest!
- Remember to clean out their enclosures frequently! Birds are extremely sensitive to smell and a dirty cage can kill!
- Only give them nesting opportunities if you're wanting eggs. Especially with parrots, nests or other soft hideaways can make them very hormonal- and aggressive!
- Birds may not be the best pet for you if you enjoy candles, incense, or other strong smells! They can become sick from the fumes.
- Do your research before adopting any sort of birds! You may start wanting a conure and end up getting quail! Birds are incredibly diverse and there may be a perfect one for you out there!
We got a good size restock on our minnows just yesterday! Just in time for nice fishing weather!
POV: You are being attacked by hamsters!
And that's a sign we have them in! We've got plenty of male and female hamsters and gerbils looking for forever homes!
Hamsters make wonderful first time pets. While they can be a little ornery, they can make quite good friends with their owners given plenty of time and patience. Hamsters require a lot of horizontal place, and enjoy burrowing. A perfect enclosure would be something around the size of a 40 gallon tank. Bigger is always better in terms of a home!
Gerbils are fairly the same deal as hamsters, though with a few key differences. For one, they're social! Many people often have horror stories of their hamsters fighting, thankfully with gerbils this will not be the case. They enjoy having a group of friends to play with. Additionally, unlike hamsters, they are a diurnal species, which means they'll be active in the day rather than be awake all night.
If you are interested in either of these lovable little rodents, feel free to come check them out!
Welcome to our Sunday ✨️ Animal Spotlight ✨️ at L&L Pets!
Meet the Crested Gecko!
We have a male and a female looking for good homes! These fun lizards are a great alternative to chameleons. They're far more hardy, can live in smaller cages, and are a bit more handleable than their lizard relatives. (Though they love to jump!)
Crested geckos are popular due to the diet they eat. They're omnivores, but they can get all their needs from a "Crested gecko food" diet. Mix a bit of water with the powdered food, and you won't ever have to worry about feeding them crickets, which makes them great for people who don't want bugs in their house!
Even still, you can always get them occasional crickets or mealworms as a snack. They are not picky animals and love to hunt if given a chance.
Fun fact: Crested geckos were once thought to be extinct. Thankfully they were rediscovered in 1994 and swiftly grew popular in the pet trade!
Come take a look at them at L&L Pets!
Did you know we do custom paludariums and terrariums? Come visit us and see what we can do. The paludarium below is one that store owner Jason just finished up. These kinds of tanks are sure to be a focal point of any room!
Looking to add a little bit of music to your home? Check out this Canary we have!
Sometimes you gotta try thinking outside the box when trying to catch a loose animal, like flapping your arms like a bird to make the bird less suspicious of your motives. There may or may not have been some squawking too. 🤣🤣
