Leptospirosis is on the rise in San Diego.
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that poses a significant risk to dogs and people, especially in areas like San Diego, where the climate and urban environment can foster the spread of the bacteria. Dogs can contract leptospirosis through contact with contaminated water, soil, or urine from infected wildlife, such as rodents or infected dogs. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, muscle pain, and in severe cases, kidney or liver failure. Vaccination and regular veterinary check-ups are essential to protect dogs from this potentially life-threatening disease.

I’m Bowie (like David Bowie!), and I’m hoping to find my forever person to love me and enjoy life with! I just turned 1, and I’m 48 lbs and adorable :)
I was rescued from Downey Shelter right before Christmas, hours before they were going to euthanize me. Now, my foster mom is helping me find my forever home! My foster family has a toddler that I adore, so I would do great in a home with kids! I love playing fetch with toys! I am a snuggle bug and love to give kisses and cuddle. I would do best in a home with another dog who is looking for a buddy to play with, but I would be okay as a solo dog too!
I am working on a few things daily, with my new trainer! I am scared of large trucks due to my life before the shelter, so I am sometimes fearful on walks by streets with car traffic, but I am improving every day on this! I can now walk a longer distance and am able to move past my fears and enjoy myself :)
My trainer says I am showing a lot of progress, and I am a quick learner! I am working with her on my leash reactivity too. I can be reactive on a leash when I see other dogs, as I want to play, and I get really excited since I’m a pup still. My trainer says I will continue to get better at this and overcome it with training. I do love playing and interacting with other dogs and do great at the dog park with dogs of all sizes! I have lived with a large pitbull and got along really well with him too!
I would love to find a home with a fully fenced yard, so I can enjoy running around in a backyard to burn energy and enjoy the sun! I am up to date on my vaccines and potty trained! My foster mom is getting me neutered soon too, as I just turned 1!

This traumatic experience lead her to have emergency surgery, the need for on going care, the possibility for an additional surgery(s) and unable to work. The incident has created a physical, emotional and financial hardship. We are asking if you can please donate or share to help ease the difficult road ahead for Megan and Melinda. Dr. Aashni Singh shaped by her multicultural upbringing in several regions of India & the US, is committed to infusing her diverse experiences into her work. She strives to approach all her patients and their two- legged friends with an open mind, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive perspective.
Dr. Singh studied Biology and Health Policy at the University of Utah, before moving to California to work in the field of biotechnology. Driven by a passion for both animals and medicine, she pursued a degree in veterinary medicine at the prestigious Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine, in collaboration with the University of Alaska Fairbanks. During her two years in Alaska, Dr. Singh had the unique opportunity to work with sled dogs, muskox, reindeer, and more. After graduating from CSU, she joined a high-quality veterinary practice in Denver, Colorado. In 2024, she made the move to California to be closer to her family and the ocean, eagerly joining the team here at All Pets Animal Hospital. 🧡💙💚💜🐾

A little bit about our awesome new doctor...
Dr. Empert-Gallegos grew up splitting time between the city and life on a ranch which helped grow her love from animals ( from horses to blue- belly lizards).
She received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis. She received her veterinary degree from the University of Glasgow, in Scotland, United Kingdom.
She moved down to Southern California to pursue a small animal rotating internship where she honed her skills in emergency medicine and intensive care, surgery, internal medicine, and other specialties. Dr. Empert-Gallegos has a special passion for ophthalmology (the study and treatment of eyes) and oncology (the study and treatment of cancer). She then went on to work as an emergency and urgent care veterinarian, before joining the team here at All Pets Animal Hospital.

Egg Binding is a common problem in veiled chameleons, even in very young females. They can produce around 70 eggs at once. Sometimes we can help them pass the eggs with medications & supportive care, but surgery to spay them is needed if unsuccessful. If you notice a bulging belly or changes in appetite/activity bring your reptile in for a veterinary exam right away. This little lady was helped through this process by our very own Dr. Asrow.💚 💚🦎🥚
