🌞 Summer is the season of our highest impact! 🌞 Our Farm produces 80,000 pounds of food, feeds 45,000 people, and donates 75% of our harvest to people in need each year. It is during the summer months that we grow and feed the most.We also educate more than 10,000 youth including more than half who visit the Farm on scholarship. Our programs are designed to foster a love of nature and inspire environmental stewardship, and summer bustles with campers, CITs, Nature Play visitors, and more!We can’t do this work without your support. Help us raise the remaining $200,000 this fiscal year (before September 30th!) to sustain our vital initiatives. Support us this summer by giving towards another fruitful season of making a difference. 🌱 #jewishlife #donatetoday #sandiego #garden #urbanfarm #regenerativefarming #fooddonation #CommunityFirst

Don't be intimidated by the name! Stinging Nettle is an herb known not only for its medicinal purpose, but also for culinary use. Use this plant as you would other leafy greens: add to soups, stews, smoothies, or stir fry. Just make sure you clean or cook it to rid of its stinging hairs (and use garden gloves when handling!). This plant is incredibly nutritious as its full of vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids.

Agriculture and land use alone account for nearly a quarter of total greenhouse emissions, and conventional agriculture is largely to blame. Practices such as tilling, use of harmful chemicals, genetic modification, and monocropping contribute to the decline of our precious soil and ecosystems.
But the solution is just below our feet. Regenerative agriculture cultivates healthy soil to care for people and planet, increasing nutritional content and drawing carbon out of the atmosphere.
At Coastal Roots Farm, we understand the importance of caring for our limited natural resources. This year we regeneratively-grew nearly 80,000 pounds of food for more than 45,000 community members.

The ways we understand our history evolves. For some, this day is filled with gratitude. For others, this day is rooted in generations of trauma. We are committed to learning, listening, and wish those who do celebrate a meaningful Thanksgiving.
