Harnesses are for pulling🐕‍🦺

Dogs generally pull about 60 per cent harder on a leash when wearing a padded harness compared with a collar, even when the equipment is marketed as “anti pull” – putting the people walking them at risk of injury.

Some dogs – especially smaller breeds – pull with a force more than twice their body weight on the collar, potentially damaging their throats, says Erin Perry at Southern Illinois University.

“It’s really very shocking,” she says. “The dogs are almost choking themselves on that collar repeatedly. But the harnesses in our study just didn’t inhibit pulling in any way, and that’s definitely a wake-up call – especially because of the risk to owners.”

This applies to any breed, not just collies.

“Dog Needs A Farm Home”

A statement we hear so often partially because we are farmers and partially because we rescue. However, this statement often could not be more wrong, what it should say is Dog Needs Training!

Sending a hyperactive, untrained pet to a random farm is not a kindness-it is a cop out!

Working collies take time, groundwork and basic training before all else, the collie that you’ve had from a pup that doesn’t even know its own name is not going to become a champion sheepdog.

Consider, your collie has slept on the sofa, snuggled on the bed, played with toys and been a member of the family-you’ve sent it to potentially live in a kennel outside, away from all it has ever known, to typically try and fail over and over again. Your collie doesn’t understand that vehicles are dangerous, that cattle kick and that wandering off and chasing sheep is wrong-those are hard lessons to learn when you haven’t even taught that dog it’s own name….

If you buy a collie it’s no surprise it is going to be high energy-train and channel that, you made a commitment so follow through.

We see so many collies that we are told need a farm home, the majority have no more talent as sheepdogs than a chihuahua.

When choosing a collie as a pet you a committing to a high energy, intelligent breed-please consider this before taking home that gorgeous puppy!
