A Mothers Love

The excitement builds whenever visitors discover our adorable puppies! People flock to our facility, eagerly counting down the days until they’re ready for adoption. They can’t wait to join in on puppy yoga sessions, snuggling up with these lovable furballs. But amidst all the joy, let’s not forget about the unsung heroes—the mamas of these puppies!

While everyone is enchanted by the little ones, their mothers sit patiently, waiting for someone to shower them with the love they yearn for and to find their forever home. It’s heartbreaking to think that while there may be a waiting list for the puppies, far too often, the devoted mothers are overlooked.

Currently we have four loving mother dogs waiting for a home of their own. Pecan, Honey Crisp, Gloria and Prima have taken exceptional care of their pups but now want a forever family of their own. Take a moment to consider one of our mother dogs. Many of them have never gotten the chance to enjoy the carefree joy of being a puppy themselves. They deserve just as much love and attention. Let’s shine a light on these incredible moms—because every dog deserves a chance at happiness!

These sweet pups are in desperate need of loving fosters. They can be fostered individually or together, but it’s important that they’re in a home without other dogs. Unfortunately, they all have kennel cough, which prevents us from keeping them in our kennels. We truly want to avoid having them spend time in cages at our medical facility; they would thrive so much better in a warm home filled with love and attention. We’ll provide all the necessary supplies, and they will need to take oral medications during their recovery.

We apologize for any convenience, but it will resume next week. Our lead behaviorist who runs the playgroup is unable to attend because of a scheduling conflict. She is spending the weekend doing continuing education and training to better serve our dogs and community.

A local Humane Society has had supporters and pet owners targeted by scammers.

Although this has not affected us directly, we ask that you stay vigilant.

The scammers contact pet owners who are searching for their lost pets and falsely claim that they have found their pet and that it requires emergency surgery. Victims are pressured to send money immediately through services like PayPal or other payment methods.

Suncoast Humane Society will NEVER ask for service payments over the phone, via email, or any messaging service (SMS, WhatsApp, text, Facebook, etc.).

Suncoast Humane Society will NEVER ask anyone to submit payment through a payment source (like PayPal, Venmo, CashApp, etc.) for their pet's reclaim fee or any medical procedure (emergency or not).

For animal-related fees, payments are ONLY accepted IN-PERSON at the organization (or off-site adoption event) or clinic (or off-site clinic event).

If someone in your community receives a call, text, email, or message via social media from an animal organization claiming they have found their lost pet:
Do not communicate with the person via that call or message.
Do not respond to that message (or use that number to return the call).
Make a note of:
o The time of call/message
o What phone number appears when they call/message you
o The name the caller gave
o What organization they claim they represent
o What method they used to contact you (phone, text, social media)
o Your pet’s name
o How they know this pet is yours (microchipped, collar/tag, etc.)
o Where they found your contact information
o Where they "found" your pet
o What is “wrong” with your pet
o How much money they are asking for
o What method they want for payment (PayPal, Venmo, etc.)
o DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING OVER THE PHONE
o Call the organization DIRECTLY.
o Use the number the organization has listed on their website/social media page.
o Most organizations have menu options when you dial their main number. Use the menu to find someone to speak with live.
o Explain that you received a call or message from a person claiming to be a representative of their organization and they asked for payment for your animal’s fee/medical care. You would like to report this activity and also verify that your lost pet is not at their facility (it most likely isn’t).
o On the off-chance that your animal IS at their facility (by sheer coincidence), please know that the organization will still NOT ask for payment over the phone or through any pay software/app.
o You will need to go to the facility IN PERSON.
Give them the information you noted.
Call the authorities next to report the same information.

Sometimes destiny has a beautiful way of guiding us.

Yesterday, Karen walked into our shelter searching for a companion dog after losing her beloved golden retriever. Not being tech-savvy, she came in to meet one of our matchmakers rather than searching the website. Remarkably, just an hour earlier, we had received a golden retriever through owner surrender. Sam had just enjoyed a dip in our pool and was drying off when Karen arrived. An instant spark ignited when taken to the play yard to meet Sam. His tail wagged with joy, and he lovingly rubbed against her legs, capturing the attention of our staff through the office windows. It was pure love at first sight for both Karen and Sam, a moment filled with indescribable joy. Since Sam needed vaccinations before leaving, they had to part for the night. When Karen returned today, Sam was overjoyed, leaping up and kissing her as if to say he knew she would come back. Before heading home, they picked out a new collar and leash together at Pip's Boutique in our Community Center. Karen shared how she struggled to sleep that night, feeling anxious about Sam spending the night at the shelter. Yet, she trusted the process, and on her drive home, she saw a car with a golden retriever license plate in front of her.
Whether it was a sign from her previous companion or not, we may never know.
What we do know is that happy families are created here!
