Cold weather tips!!

Try to place the shelter in a garage or covered porch, or beneath a carport, all of which can provide a few additional degrees of much-needed warmth. And be sure to raise the refuge a few inches off the ground to keep the cold from leeching up through the shelter's bottom while giving your furry friend a sense of security.

Make sure your pets have unlimited access to fresh, non-frozen water (by changing the water frequently or using a pet-safe, non-metal water bowl).

Pets who spend a lot of time outside need more food to replace energy lost from trying to stay warm.

Finally, make sure your outdoor-only animals are the ones getting the food and water you put out, not your neighborhood raccoons, squirrels, foxes, or whatever wildlife happen to live in your area.

Please bring your pets inside if you can!

Meet our newest patient.

Namor the Xoloitzcuintli aka The Mexican hairless.

Remember Dante from the Disney movie Coco? Yup that’s him.

Facts about this breed:

1. Xolos have been around for at least 3,000 years. Archaeological evidence suggests they accompanied the first humans to cross the Bering Strait, then lived in the jungles of Mexico, where they were prized by ancient cultures.

2. There are 3 different sizes- Toy, miniature, and standard. Namor is a standard.

3. While Xolos are famously free of hair, there are actually two varieties—hairless and coated.

4. Xolos do not require tons of exercise a good walk around the neighborhood would be all they needed.

5. They do require skin care routine.

6. They are known to be loyal, intelligent, alert, companionable, protective, and calm.

Welcome Namor 🐶🐾

❄WITH FREEZING WEATHER COMING UP❄

Temperature is set to go to 1 Thursday night. This weather can kill a domesticated animal left outdoors or in a dog box or shed. PLEASE PLEASE bring your pets indoors overnight.
Those of you that think dogs don't feel the cold because they have a "fur coat" That's a MYTH. Dogs/ Cats feel the cold exactly like us.
We know there are people that either refuse to bring their dogs inside the house, Or there are a few dogs that genuinely prefer outdoors. We just ask that if that's your dog PLEASE ensure they at least have a dry warm bed in a shed or garage at least. Check their bedding daily because it can become damp in a few hours. Straw or hay can provide good heat source.
Dog kennels are NOT sufficient for winter. They don't hold any heat nor allow a dog/cat to shelter from rain and frost.
Please hear our words folks. Look at your pets face, they adore you.. please keep them warm and safe 🐾
