A lot has changed this summer. We now, only, have Ancona ducks and Muscovy ducks. Our only domestic geese on the farm are cotton patch geese; with the exception of “Buffy” our old 12 year old Buff goose, who is retiring as a pet, here. Our last foster parent geese, moved to their new homes. A beautiful Pomeranian goose to Cool Creek Farm and 4 to a family who wanted geese on their pasture with sheep. We will be having a variety of Ancona next year, both crested and crested free flocks. Don’t worry, we will be keeping the crested girls separate. It’s a bittersweet feeling, knowing that a some of our feathered friends have left us. But, it frees up more time and space, knowing that we will only be having one breed. We also added a beautiful pair of Australian Black Swans to our home. It’ll be a few years before they can reproduce and that’s ok with us. Thank you all for supporting us.

Officially welcoming our new cygnets, Odiele and Siegfried, Australian Black Swans. It’ll be a few years, but it will be worth the wait! 💜

Summer time is a hard time to catch up. There’s a lot of work to be done. And, if I’m outside, I don’t have service. And, when I finally come inside… I’m usually rushing to get something done or I’m falling asleep. I apologize for any unread messages.

We have switched our ducks around and hope to be offering heritage Ancona ducks next year from a variety of different color eggs, and a variety of different colored ducks. Also, Muscovies.

Such a great read about Cotton Patch Geese! Elizabeth Collins’s goose is on the stamp. I am so grateful to be a part of this rare breed of geese. I will say, the aggression mentioned towards humans has since changed in the breed. It is more common now, that ganders do not attack humans, but can still pack a nasty “butt whooping” on some other animal, during gosling time.

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that we now only have waterfowl on our farm. And, will only be offering Cotton Patch goslings and possibly mixed breed ducklings. If we decide to offer pure breed ducklings, it will be heritage line Anconas. But for now, only Cotton Patch geese. I do not offer day old goslings, I grow them out first to make sure that I am offering the best quality goslings to the public. This is also to ensure that they are in good health. We send a hatch certificate and a picture of the bird as it leaves our farm. Thank you for understanding. Merry Christmas to all you bird lovers, especially the webbed footed birds.

It looks like we’ve gone to the ducks… we are on a mission for a project line. Please stay tuned as we start this adventure. In the meantime, please enjoy a few pictures of some of our babies that we’ve enjoyed raising this year. These are not what our future has, but they are part of our pets.

I love watching the goslings showing signs of bathing and diving techniques. You can see Kingsley diving down under the water in excitement. The adoptive father is very protective of the goslings and shows amazing fatherly behaviors. The gander that he chased away is actually dominant over him, when the goslings are not present.

It’s a Cotton Patch Goose evening. Absolutely love this critically threatened, landrace breed! The parents protecting the goslings are not all of the parents. One white gander and the grey goose are the actual parents. The other two ganders self elected themselves as additional fathers. Gotta love geese and their extended family ties. 💜 The Canada goose also wants to join in on the little ones upbringing. However, the Cottons doesn’t want this strange goose being part of this family.

Cotton Patch, Canada, Snow, and Greylag geese all in one photo. The only ones not pictured are a few female Cotton Patch, a pair of Barnacle, and the family of Cotton Patch. Im pretty sure I’m finished with breeding season after the bear disposed of all the eggs. So, I’m just letting everyone hang out together. Raggedy Ann up front had a very rough setting due to her gander not leaving her alone. This is my happy place! 💜

There are many different looks to Cotton Patch Geese when it comes to females. It really depends on what like you have, if they’re a solid, a pied, or a pied carrier. However, almost all ganders look exactly the same.

Cotton Patch Geese are the best domestic breed of geese, in my opinion. They’re more kind than other breeds.

I’m proud to present our first goslings of the year. It may be our only ones. Two ganders and a goose. Kingsley, Lee, and Elaine. Cotton Patch geese are the best. Another CP gander thinks he needs to be the father, and a Canada goose thinks she needs to be a second mother as well.

A lazy duck day. Actually, these ducks are far from lazy. They spend a great deal of their time checking out what’s in the water and under leaves. The brown, black, and white duck is a female mullard. Half Muscovy and half Ancona. I’ve been waiting to find one. She’s nothing more than a pretty bird. She is almost certain to be sterile, due to the chromosome differences in the two species. If someone is looking for a duck that likes water, is quiet, and only eants a certain amount of ducks, this is your "breed". I hope to have a few more.

Due to an unforeseen issue with a bear, we are unsure if our remaining goose eggs will hatch. We will definitely keep everyone posted! We tried to salvage as many as possible.
