Hand made wreaths are the final offering from the farm until planting season! We’re been drying flowers and seed heads for months, carefully collecting fresh greens and berries, and turning the greenhouse into a wreath studio to have these ready for Small Business Saturday. Find Wild Field and farmer friends and conscious food project at the Boston Store downtown tomorrow Nov 30 from 10-4. puts on a great event with so many local makers and vendors to support this time of year. If this snowstorm cancels the event, we’ll post photos of each wreath available for purchase directly from the farm. The large ones are $55 each with $5 from every purchase going directly to support a new community farm on east 4th st. Please sign up for the farm newsletter to get more info about the new farm, community food work in Erie, and how to get involved

Thank you to for the amazing photos!

Fermentation festival returns! Like last year, is hosting this celebration of all things fermented with a community space to learn, share, and trade cultures, recipes, and skills. Thanks to friends at , .and.honey.erie , , and more (if you want to lead a workshop or demo, there’s room and a place to sign up on Grounded’s website!). We’ll have sourdough bread, floral ferments, mushroom ferments, kombucha, and hot sauce all covered as well as general veg pickling! The festival is a mix of presentations, shared information, place to bring your own produce and put it in a jar, and in true fermented fashion, a surprise of all that is possible in the right environment!

The intentions, the seeds, the tending, the harvest season coming to fruition.

Every year we hope will be an okra year. The plants are over 5 feet tall in the new greenhouse.

The cargo bike trailer is pulling its weight. And then some. Made by the wonderful Bikes At Work in Iowa.

I planted 5 paw paw seeds in spring of 2017 when I lived in a little apartment in little Italy. Two sprouted months later after I moved to 7th St. The two trees are now 7 years old and bearing fruit for the first time 💚 I’ve never stayed in one place so long, and it’s amazing to see what can take root and slowly grow and grow until fully flourishing.

Thinking about a hot sauce CSA for next year. Is anyone into that??

We really need rain. 🙏

It’s flower season here, with the first flower csa shares going out on Friday as we’re welcoming friends back to the farm, human and floral. Noticing when plants bloom and fruit and even die is a big part of each year and season. Even when these markers are earlier than usual, when weather and rain and the future feel uncertain, the reliability of these flowers and their temporary beauty as they attract pollinators and set seed is worth celebrating over and over again.

Sowing seeds, especially this year, feels like an act of hope and resistance and determination to hold onto what is possible even during cold days well below freezing and surrounded by collective grief and exhaustion. The first ones we start are lisianthus and eucalyptus, followed by many tiny herb seeds including za’atar, oregano, rosemary, lavender, chamomile, lemon bergamot, summer thyme. Veggie-wise, we’ve also gently placed the hard seeds of artichoke, onion, and chili peppers into our favorite seed starting mix from .soil and leafy greens like endive, lettuce, kale, and cilantro will follow this week. Peas in the ground too, as it thaws. And the garlic is poking through the straw. Buds are swelling on the fruit trees.

We’ll have starter plants available in May, and sign ups for the flower csa are open now! There are 7 spots left, so if you’re thinking about fresh flowers on your table all summer and fall, now’s the time. The flowers we grow and sell financially support the farm’s community work and the food and time we joyfully share at low or no monetary cost. Now is not too early to think about Easter and Mothers Day gifts. All of you who follow wild field and support our work are a gift as well. Maybe you’re about to sow some new seeds too! Let us know how it’s going, and together we’re building new foodways and relationships of mutual aid in Erie 💚 🌱 💚 speaking of, this year, we’re offering ALL plants as pay-what-you-can, including free, to honor the now three year tradition of pay what you can farm stand where we share produce with each other and our friends and neighbors and from a place of gratitude for the abundance that is guiding the farm this year. We’re learning and growing and expanding. Sign up for the newsletter, send a message or email, attend a meeting of the Erie food policy advisory council, sign up for the flower csa, lots of ways to get involved if you’re interested 💚
