The past few months have been incredibly busy for us here at the Erie Humane Society. Our dedicated team has been working tirelessly to provide essential orthopedic surgeries and rehabilitation services to the many animals in our care. From fractures to joint issues, we've seen it all, and we're committed to giving every animal the best chance at a healthy, happy life.

We are immensely grateful to our amazing veterinary partners and our incredible supporters who make this work possible. Your generosity and dedication help us continue to provide these critical services. However, the demand has been overwhelming, and we need your help now more than ever.

Please consider donating to our medical fund or volunteering your time to assist with the increased needs of our furry friends. Together, we can ensure every animal receives the care they deserve.

Our newest intake is sweet 1 1/2 year old Perdue who came to us looking for our help to fix his bowed legs and give him a better quality of life! Once settled Perdue is going to be heading to metropolitan specialty services to see what they can do for him!

Thank you for your continued support in helping us help the animals that come our way! 🐶🐱❤️

If you can’t tell by looking at his pictures, Chase had a WONDERFUL time on his doggycation! During his vacation he enjoyed adventurous walks around town, playing with new toys, and some much-needed cuddle sessions. He was such a perfect boy for his doggycation foster parent that they just could not let him come back to the shelter. After 138 days of being an EHS shelter pet, Chase has finally found his family! We are so thrilled for you, Chase, and we wish you happiness as you begin your journey into a life filled with enduring and genuine love that you truly deserve.

If you are interested in becoming an EHS doggycation foster parent, you can apply at https://www.eriehumanesociety.org/programs/foster or you can e-mail [email protected] if you have any questions.

ICYMI: We introduced Naveen (white) and Merida (brown) yesterday on ! These 5 month old Akita mix pups are looking for special families. Ideal adopters for these pups should do their research on the Akita breed and be prepared to commit to lots of socialization with people and other dogs, training and enrichment to provide mental stimulation, an active lifestyle to ensure they are getting plenty of exercise, and provide lots of unconditional love. These little ones were surrendered to EHS through our Erie Humane Society Animal Cruelty Division after they were found living in extremely unsanitary conditions, and they are eager to start their next chapter of life. Breed knowledge is preferred, but not required. We are looking to place Naveen and Merida in the best possible fitting homes to ensure their needs are met, so their adoptions will be approved by management.

As a guardian breed, Akita's are very loving and loyal to their families. If you think your home is missing one of these cuties, stop by to fill out an application or apply online at eriehumanesociety.org/adopt.

EHS Friends -- The voting phase of the 2024 Erie's Choice Awards is open NOW through June 30. Please take a moment and visit the Erie's Choice website and nominate the Erie Humane Society in the categories of:

PETS: PET GROOMING

Our Certified Pet Stylists, Erin and Joy, work very hard to deliver a flawless service while keeping your pet comfortable at all times. All proceeds from grooming services directly benefit the homeless shelter pets at EHS!

While we don’t rely on this recognition as validation of our work, we look at it as a way to increase awareness about our mission, which helps increase our ability to save more animal lives. Through our no-kill, fear-free mission to RESCUE, REHABILITATE, AND REHOME pets in need, we can also continue offering valuable programs and services to our community.

We feel your love and support everyday and we hope you will support EHS with your nomination.

Vote for the top nominees in each category and be entered to win a gift card!

Aurora is in urgent need of your help!
Aurora the 5 month old Akita mix came to us with 3 other siblings through our cruelty department when they were found to be living in unsanitary conditions and living in cages. After some much needed TLC, deworming and spay/neuter procedures these babies were ready to go up for adoption. Unfortunately, Aurora did not improve like her siblings did and suddenly spiked a fever of 105 degrees and stopped eating this week, staff quickly transported her to Glenwood Pet Hospital for emergency care to bring her fever down which was still climbing, and figure out what was going on. Aurora needs further care and the possibility to be transported to a 24/7 facility to continue treatment due to anemia and her fever that is fluctuating. If you would like to help Aurora in her recovery journey please donate to her medical treatment.

Roxie, a 4 year old Akita mix, would like to crash on your couch! She came to us extremely malnourished and needs a foster family to help her gain weight. The strict feeding schedule that she is on is very important to her recovery as she works on improving her health and getting strong. She is requesting a quiet home where she can relax during recovery, with no small children or other pets. If she so happens to have fur-foster siblings, she asks that they are calm, male dogs as she is not up to par with high intensity activity right now. Roxie truly hopes that there is a foster family out there that can give her this specialty care that she very much needs.

Apply to become a foster at https://www.eriehumanesociety.org/programs/foster or if you have additional questions regarding Roxie's care, please reach out to our foster coordinator via email at [email protected].

Meet Bernard: From Survivor to Thriving Companion!

Hey there, I'm Bernard, a resilient 3-year-old Beagle mix with a heart full of hope and a wagging tail ready to find my forever home. My journey hasn't been easy-I was rescued from a tough situation, starved and sickly, but thanks to the love and care of my rescuers, I'm now thriving and eager to share my love with a new family.

Despite my rough start, I've bounced back and am healthier than ever. I've put on some weight, my coat is shiny, and my spirit is brighter every day. I've learned to trust again and am ready to shower my new family with affection and loyalty.

I'm a gentle soul with a curious nature. I love exploring the world around me, sniffing out new scents, and enjoying leisurely walks where I can take my time to investigate everything. I get along well with other dogs and am friendly with people of all ages-children included!

I've been working on my manners and basic commands, and I'm eager to continue learning with positive reinforcement training. Treats are a great motivator for me-I'll do just about anything for a tasty snack!

What I'm really looking for in my forever home is a loving family who will cherish me for who I am-a survivor with a heart full of gratitude. A secure environment where I can continue to grow and thrive would be perfect. A patient family who understands my past and is committed to giving me the love and care I deserve would make my tail wag with joy.

If you're looking for a companion who embodies resilience and gratitude, let's meet! I'll be the Beagle mix with a twinkle in my eye and a heart full of love, ready to embark on this new chapter of life with you.

128 Years Serving Erie County

In 1892, the Erie Humane Society was incorporated as a private, non-profit, charitable organization of the Commonwealth of PA. The initial mission was to investigate crimes of animal, child, and elder abuse.

Since 2015, the shelter has refocused its efforts on Rescuing, Rehabilitating, and Rehoming pets to the best of our ability. The vision is to ensure refuge, develop relationships, and work with companion animals that are in need of rehabilitation prior to adoption.

Operating under “No-Kill” standards, the Erie Humane Society works to rehabilitate the whole pet, understanding their behavior, medical, and emotional needs. Because of our dedication and commitment to reintegration efforts, pets are given an opportunity to start a fresh chapter while waiting to find their forever homes.

The Erie Humane Society is not a chapter of the Humane Society of the United States --in fact, the HSUS does not operate chapters or shelter. We are a local, independent, registered 501-c3 nonprofit organization. We rely on grant funding, modest adoption fees, and the generous support of our community.
