Adoption Requirements/Policies

You are applying for a minimum commitment of 10-15 years when you adopt a pet. Be sure you are willing and able to make the investment in time, finances, and training (average $1,000 annually) to properly care and maintain your new pet!

If you own your own home we will check to verify. If you rent/rent to own we will need the contact information for the property owner in order to verify that you are allowed to have a pet on the property. Please talk to your landlord about adopting as there may be breed and size restrictions that may apply.

If you have been employed for less than a year, you will be required to show proof of income!

We DO allow out of the area adoptions - however everyone living in the home as well as any dogs must come to the shelter to meet with the animal of interest to process your adoption! You will be required to provide us with proof of home ownership if you own your home - a copy of your deed, mortgage statement, or property tax form are all acceptable. We do not take deposits and/or put holds on the animals available for adoption and we do not ship our pets - adoption requires a face to face interview with a member of our staff and your personal interaction with the animal. There are no exceptions to this rule! A 24 hour meet and greet hold can potentially be placed on an animal of interest as long as your application has been pre-approved and there are no other applications pending on that specific animal (this hold only applies to out of area adopters and may exclude puppy adoptions)!!

Everyone including ALL children (if any) present in the home will be required to come in to meet with the animal of interest. Adoptions are based on the best possible fit for the new owner and animal. Adoptions are never done on a "first come/first serve basis". Your application may be approved or denied for any reason as we are trying to find the best fit possible in choosing lifelong homes. All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on their vaccinations. Basic Exams and Veterinary Care is provided for all animals in our care.

A "Meet and Greet" is required if you have other pets in your home (dogs only). All pets in the home must be Spayed/Neutered and up to date on at least their Rabies vaccines in order to be considered to adopt! It is HIGHLY recommended that your dog/s also be up to date on the Bordetella ( Kennel Cough) Vaccine in order to help prevent them from contracting kennel cough as it is an airborne virus that is prominent here at the shelter. Please consult with your Veterinarian and/or call the shelter if you have questions.

We do not refund adoption fees or reimburse for expenses. Any expenses related to owning a pet are solely the responsibility of the new owner beginning when the animal leaves the shelter. This includes, but is not limited to adequate food, shelter, and veterinary care.

We are super sweet and friendly and love to be handled. Our adoption fee is $25.00 for both of us but you'll need your own appropriate enclosure!

Hi! Our names are Maggie (mare) and Elmer (gelding), we are a bonded pair of senior Morgan(ish) type horses! We've been together most of our lives, 27 years now. Our owner died and didn't have a provision made for us and no one in the family is able to care for us or continue to pay our board so sadly...we have to find a new pasture to retire in. Currently we are boarded at a private facility until the end of the month and there is limited space at ANNA's Equine Center due to the recent large rescue so finding a home sooner than later would be nice. Actually, staying where we've been for the last few years would be the most ideal but board is only paid til the end of July so... We are nearing 30 years of age, but are both healthy and happy! We look thin but we eat well and loves supplements like beet pulp and alfalfa cubes. Old horses just don't carry the muscle like we used to but that's normal as we age. We're technically pony size at just 14 hands. We stand well for the farrier but don't need horse shoes...just trims as both are barefoot. We've never been ridden but do lead and tie and have great manners. We love attention and are very easy keepers. We are pastured overnight and do just fine. We don't have any bad stall habits, no kicking or biting, pawing or cribbing. If you have room in your barn and pasture for two more horses...please consider us. Email [email protected] to set up a time to meet us...we would be forever grateful.

Hi! My name is Baby Cakes! I am a four year old Thoroughbred mare. I came here because my owner passed away and no one could keep her horses. I lost my eye due to a pasture injury when I was a baby but it doesn't slow me down at all...I'm used to it now. But sadly, I had a buddy horse and someone else took her but didn't want me so I came here to find my new home. I was so sad and scared when I got here. Thankfully, Stephanie was very patient with me and helped me feel safe and loved again. I would do best with a buddy and I am great in a herd. No one spent much time with us in our first home so it's been like starting from scratch with me. I am doing great at being led and standing quietly. I am a work in progress...but the good news is...I am young and sweet and do like attention. I will need to be adopted by someone who it horse savvy and has experience with babies like me. Also you will need patience to earn my trust. I will be a great girl to keep your other horse(s) company and look beautiful in your pasture too! I know there won't be tons of people that want me...but all I need is ONE person to love me forever! I just had my feet and teeth done too...so I am looking and feeling GREAT!!! Adoption donation to help cover my costs here. Contact [email protected] to get more information and to make a time to meet me.

A HUGE THANK YOU to our friends at the East Erie Moose Club who hosted a SOLD OUT BINGO event for us! They did an amazing job and raised very much needed money to help us with the shelter animals! Toni worked so hard to make the event a success!!! Dave came up with the idea and approached our director, Ruth, to make it happen! The check was presented by Club President, John, at one of their meetings. We are so thankful for their faithful support!!!! This generous donation could not have come at a better time!!!!!
