Blue Star Farms owner and trainer, Kristin Jacob, has been passionate about horses since she was 5 years old. From an early age, Kristin Jacob has competed on the A-rated hunter/jumper circuit and has shown up through the Grand Prix level on the West Coast. She has competed and won ribbons, championships, and circuit championships at prestigious horse shows across the country including the Colorad

o Summer Circuit, HITS Thermal, HITS Arizona, and The National Horse Show and has piloted multiple horses to USEF Horse of the Year and CHJA Year-End awards and championships. degree in Geology from Sonoma State University and a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Although Kristin has enjoyed considerable show ring success, she has felt that a deeper understanding of the horse was missing from that world. In 2013, Kristin met exceptional horsewoman, Mindy Bower, who opened up for her an entirely new approach – one of true respect, understanding, and willing partnership between horse and rider. In addition to continuing her show career, Kristin has strived to learn all that she can from Mindy, and most importantly from the horse. It is Kristin’s goal to integrate the underlying horsemanship principles and philosophies with show jumping and to methodically build confidence, trust, and communication between horse and rider. There are very few people in the English disciplines who follow these methods and it is Kristin’s hope to be able to share this approach and philosophy with the Hunter/Jumper community. As a dedicated student of the horse, it is imperative to Kristin that she continuously collaborate with her mentors and take every opportunity to grow and improve her own riding and horsemanship. She continues to work with Helen Gould of Blue Cloud Farms, along with several other top Hunter/Jumper trainers who have helped to bring her along and have imparted to her their knowledge and experience at the higher levels of show jumping throughout the years. Mindy is in the process of handing down the extraordinary gift of horsemanship to Kristin, as her mentors have handed down to her, and it is Kristin’s hope to be able to pass on this gift to those who desire to better understand and deepen their relationship with their horse. Kristin also attends several Buck Brannaman clinics per year and encourages her clients to participate or audit. Kristin is open to working with any horse and rider but places emphasis on those who have ambitions to compete on the “A” Hunter/Jumper circuit.

A.S. Dakota is proudly offered for an in-barn partial or full care lease at Blue Star Farms (out of barn full lease considered to the right program). Dakota is an 11 yr British Sport Horse mare who has competed in the 3’3’ equitation and medals, the 3’3” Jr Hunters, and the 1.0 m jumpers with her Jr. rider. It was fantastic to connect with old friends, meet new people, and take some time to learn from a living legend. Our horses and riders grew and improved and have great homework to take home to continue the journey.

In this article, Kristin gives a report from the judge’s perspective on this fantastic event where Mustangs only 120 days out of the wild complete with their handlers. Blue Star Farms would like to thank and congratulate all their horses and riders who participated in the SITR Week 5 horse show at the Colorado Horse Park.

⭐️ Roxanne Van ’T Kiezelhof owned by Blue Star Farms and ridden by Kristin Jacob. This phenomenal mare from Stal Julian Kraaij has continued to impress us with her jumping ability and kind demeanor.

⭐️ AS Dakota ridden and owned by Abby Maron. This impeccably turned out pair produced numerous gorgeous rounds in the equitation ring. They won the CHJA Jr Medal, were 2nd in the NCEA, and best of all, Abby did it all with a great smile!

⭐️ Selah VDE owned by Meg Sharemet. This lovely young horse has come so far and Meg has done a phenomenal job developing her partnership with her. They had top six placings in huge classes in the 1.0 m Jr/Am Jumpers and never touched a rail all week.

⭐️ Givaro Longane CSH and Ella Des Moulins - What a great horse show for this new pair. They got valuable miles in the 2’6” Hunter and Eq ring with top six placings in huge classes. This pair is stunning together and we are excited to watch them develop!

⭐️ Starbuck owned by Vallecito Sport Horses and ridden by Kristin Jacob. This lovely young mare moved up to the 2’6” hunters and stepped into the .75 m jumper ring at only her second show. She’s fast growing into a dependable, mature, solid citizen and loves the job of a show horse. Contact Kristin for a trial on this kind and talented horse.

⭐️ Solaguaryre Divina owned by Rianna Jansen Wilson and ridden by Kristin Jacob. This lovely young mare got great show milage, moving up to the .85 m jumpers and jumping everything with ease.

⭐️ Radka and Kristin Jacob. It is Kristin’s goal to help the young horses find peace and confidence in their jobs. One of Kristin’s greatest moments at the show was having this young mare enter the show ring in a relaxed manner on a loose rein. Sometimes the “wins” may seem small to the observer but are very meaningful to the horse’s future!

⭐️ Isis de Landra and Isabella Steiner. Although “Hazel” wasn’t able to show due to an injury, we want to give a huge shout out to Bella and Hazel for still coming to the show to have fun!

Blue Star Farms had a fantastic 4th of July week at the Colorado Horse Park Summer in the Rockie 4 horse show!

⭐️ AS Dakota ridden by Abby Maron - this pair was gorgeous in the hunter/equation ring with a win the the 3’3” Modified Hunter, a second place finish in the NCEA, and ribbons in the CHJA Jr and Hamel Foundation Medal classes.

⭐️ Selah DVE and Meg Sharemet - They had top three placings in the 1.0 m Jr/Am Jumper and a 4th place finish in the very competitive Classic. Meg and her whole family are so dedicated to the horses and the sport of show jumping and it is a true pleasure to have them at the shows!

⭐️ Givaro Longane CSH and Ella Des Moulins - this new team had their honey moon horse show and are a terrific match! They showed in the 2’6” Hunters and Equation with ribbon in each. We are excited to see this team grow and develop together!

⭐️ Roxanne Van ’T Kiezelhof owned by Blue Star Farms and ridden by Kristin Jacob - Kristin is absolutely thrilled with this incredible 7 yr mare sent to her by Stal Julian Kraaij. They showed in the 1.15 m jumpers to get to know each other and this mare jumped her heart out. They also had a great time over the gorgeous hunter fences in the Pro/Am Equation challenge.

⭐️ Starbuck owned by Vallecito Sport Horses LLC and ridden by Kristin Jacob - this lovely young mare had a fantastic second horse show with top six placings in the 2’6” Hunters and then a swap to the jumper ring with clear rounds in the .75 m jumpers. Starbuck jumped around like a pro and showed her versatility in the ring. This wonderful horse can be tried next week at SITR 5.

⭐️ Solaguaryre Divina owned by Rianna J. Willson and ridden by Kristin Jacob - what a great show for this young horse! This horse racked up the clear rounds and won a .75 m class. She took the step up to the .85 m and didn’t bat an eye and the bigger height.

⭐️ Radka and Kristin Jacob - this young mare jumped her heart out in the .85 m jumpers. She is so calm and quiet and then is on fire in the show ring. Kristin is excited to continue to develop this lovely homebred horse.

The second week of the Blue Star Farm’s Horsemanship Camp fully immersed participants in all things horsemanship with exercises building up from the foundation of ground work, to mounted exercises that were then put to use riding in mountainous terrain, crossing water, moving cattle, and answering all the questions of riding out and doing a job with one’s horse. Riders gained a tremendous understanding of their horses, grew their confidence, and strengthened their partnerships with their horses. We all had a fantastically fun time while learning, too!

Kristin would like to thank Shirley Keil and Matthew L Keil for the use of their gorgeous ranch outside of Wheatland, WY, Tom Mowrey for being an incredibly knowledgeable horseman and fantastic, kind, and patient teacher, and to Emily Kitching of Eclectic Horseman Magazine for support of the camp (each participant got an year subscription to EH magazine)! Thank you to camp participants, Abby Maron, Katherine Pugh, Allyson Schult, Hannah Joy Porter, Meg Sharemet, MaryKate Rentschler, and Martina Carlucci. We are already looking forward to two magical weeks of horsemanship camp next year!

Starbuck is a 2018 16.3 hh registered BWP mare by Imothep HS out of a Landkoenig mare. She is beautiful and refined with three comfortable gates, an easy lead change, and a soft snaffle mouth. After having a foal, Starbuck began her jumping career and just had a terrific two weeks at the Colorado Spring Series shows (5/16/24-5/26/24) where she gained great, confident show miles. She has schooled up to 3’6” at home with scope for more. Starbuck would be best suited for an adult or junior rider in a professional program looking to continue to bring along a lovely, talented young horse. Although Starbuck has started her career in the hunter ring, she could be developed for any ring. She has lovely ground manners, loves getting groomed, clipped, and bathed, and nickers to you when you go to catch her from turn out. She can be tried at the Summer in the Rockies horse shows weeks 4 and 5 (July 3-14). Full X-rays available. Priced in the mid-fives, price will increase with more show milage.

The first week of the Blue Star Farm’s Horsemanship Camp was an incredible experience filled with tremendous growth, learning, and fun for both horse’s and their riders. ⭐️ Mount Antero owned by Cedar Vale Farm and ridden by Jeremy Duerksen were reserve champion in the .75 m jumpers with clear rounds and top placings in the .85 m jumpers. Jeremy on “Tots” had a fantastic two weeks growing as a team!

⭐️ Nette Van De Koeboshoeve ridden by Allyson Schult - Ally and “Fay” competed in the Adult Eq 18-35 with top placings and beautiful smooth rounds (and it was Ally’s first time in the eq ring!) and in the .85 and .95 m jumpers.

⭐️ Unreal BSF ridden by Sarah Radunsky - this pair worked hard all week, improving, learning, and developing their partnership with each ride and culminating in a perfect round on Sunday with a top three finish in hte .95 m jumpers. They were poetry in motion!

⭐️ Roxanne Van ’T Kiezelhof owned by Blue Star Farms, ridden by Kristin Jacob - this 7 yr BWP mare has only been on US soil a few weeks and has been nothing but lovely and consistent in the show ring. Kristin showed her in the 1.10 m with many clear rounds and is looking forward to developing a partnership and moving up the levels.

⭐️ Jade V owned by the Circle C Ranch, ridden by Kristin Jacob - Jade continued to develop in the 1.10 m jumpers with great jumping efforts. Jade loves to jump more than any other horse we’ve met and his favorite place in the world is the show ring.

⭐️ Starbuck owned by Vallecito Sport Horses LLC, ridden by Kristin Jacob - we are astounded at the growth and development of this beautiful young mare over the past two weeks. Starbuck really figured out he show ring, had a consistent jumping style, got all her lead changes, and became so confident in the show ring.

⭐️ JJ Clark owned by Flo Clark, ridden by Kristin Jacob - this sweet boy has a heart of solid gold. JJ had fun in both the 2’3” USHJA Hunters and .75 and .85 m jumpers. This young horse gained great milage over the past two weeks and is one of the most pleasant horses we’ve had the pleasure of working with.

What a wonderful first week at the Colorado horse park! Highlights from our first week include:

⭐️Roxanne Van ’T Kiezelhof owned by Blue Star Farms, ridden by Kristin Jacob - this is a recently imported 7 yr BWP mare and has been nothing but perfect since she arrived a few weeks ago. Kristin took the week to get to know her and ended 3rd in the $1000 1.10 m Open Jumper Classic!

⭐️Jade V owned by the Circle C Ranch, ridden by Kristin Jacob - Jade was very excited to get back out on his home turf in the International Ring. He rounded out the week with a double clear round in the 1.10 m $1000 Open Jumper Classic earning him a 5th place finish in this very competitive class!

⭐️Mt Antero owned by Cedar Vale Farm and ridden by Kristin Jacob and Jeremy Duerksen - had a fabulous week growing and developing in the .75 and .85 jumpers with many placings. Jeremey finished up with week with a fabulous round in the .85 m!

⭐️Starbuck owned by Vallecito Sport Horses LLC, ridden by Kristin Jacob - the beautiful young mare performed with the poise and mind of a seasoned show horse at only her second show. She jumped super, gained confidence, and really picked up on her job as a performance horse. She has a fabulous mind and we are so excited for her continued development!

⭐️JJ Clark owned by Flo Clark, ridden by Kristin Jacob - this kind young horse is game for any ring! JJ enjoyed showing in both the 2’3” USHJA Hunters as well as the .75 m jumpers. A heart this game and kind is rare and JJ is a gem of a horse!

Kristin Jacob and Blue Star Farms would like to give a huge thank you to Liz Certain for her course designing clinic for our students today. The morning started off with a detailed and thoughtful discussion of course design and course building, then students learned how to build a course off of a course designer course diagram, and then the course on their horses. Students also had the opportunity to design their own course and Kristin looks forward to building each course in the weeks to come. It was a fantastic day, and we are very prepped for the upcoming spring and summer Horse shows at the Colorado Horse Park!

Julisimo “Julie” is a 2014 16.2 hh KWPN mare sired by O***m. Julie is a wonderful, simple horse who showed in the 1.05 in Europe before being imported to the US. Since being in the US, she has shown in all three rings with multiple riders. Most recently she has been shown by a 13 year old rider in the .70 m and 2’6” Hunters and Eq. Julie is honest, forgiving, and brave with no stop. She is super sweet and patient, not mare-ish, and has great ground manners and is easy to clip, shoe, and good for the vet. Last year Kristin had the opportunity to be a judge at the Meeker Mustang Makeover and this year she’ll be back again!

Experience the Wild West and train a wild mustang! Applications for the Meeker Mustang Makeover are open though April 1 for Youth (ages 10-17) and Under Saddle (ages 15+). Free clinics, lead by professional mustang trainer, Steve Mantle, will be offered to all MMM trainers to aid and support their process with their horses.

About Blue Star Farms and Kristin Jacob

Kristin Jacob focuses on the training and development of horse and rider for competition on the “A/AA” Hunter/Jumper circuit. Horses are Kristin’s greatest passion, and from an early age she has competed on the Hunter/Jumper circuit through the Grand Prix level on the West Coast. The unique Blue Star Farms program that Kristin has developed focuses on fostering a willing partnership between horse and rider, with emphasis on good horsemanship and the fundamental elements of the American Forward Riding System. It is Kristin’s goal to methodically build confidence, trust, and communication between horse and rider. Although Kristin’s riders enjoy considerable show ring success, they additionally enjoy rewarding relationships with their horses outside the show ring because of the importance she places on educating her riders in horse care, horse welfare, and horse handling.

As a dedicated student of the horse, Kristin takes every opportunity to improve her own riding and horsemanship skills. Kristin works closely with Helen Gould of Blue Cloud Farms along with several other top Hunter/Jumper professionals who have imparted to her their knowledge and experience at the higher levels of the sport throughout the years. Kristin has also worked closely with exceptional horsewoman Mindy Bower who introduced her to the style of horsemanship made popular by Buck Brannaman. Kristin is open to working with any horse and rider but especially welcomes those who have ambitions to compete on the “A/AA” Hunter/Jumper circuit.

Kristin’s academic education includes a B.S. degree in Geology from Sonoma State University and a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
