Vegan nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated! 🌱

Eat a variety of whole, plant-based foods, and you’ll meet most of your nutritional needs with ease. Pair your meals with a few essentials like B12, fortified foods, and a little sunlight for Vitamin D, and you’re good to go!

✅ Protein: No strict planning required—just eat enough calories and a variety of foods! Almost all plant foods provide some protein. For extra protein, try lentils, chickpeas, tofu, peanut butter, pumpkin seeds, almonds, spinach, potatoes, quinoa, and more.

✅ Calcium: Strong bones don’t need cow’s milk! Instead, find calcium in dark leafy greens, tofu made with calcium sulfate, fortified plant milks, orange juice, blackstrap molasses, and tempeh.

✅ Vitamin D: Your body makes its own Vitamin D with sunlight! Just 10-15 minutes on your hands and face 2-3 times a week can do the trick. You can also get Vitamin D from fortified plant milks like soy or rice.

✅ Vitamin B12: While B12 isn’t naturally found in plant foods, fortified foods or a supplement make it easy to stay energized. The NIH recommends 2.4 micrograms daily for adults. Try nutritional yeast, tempeh, nori, dried shiitake mushrooms, or fortified plant milks—but always check the label!

With a little mindfulness, you can thrive on a plant-based diet and keep your body healthy and strong 💪

Alfie Update!✨ 🐐

On Sunday, Alfie made a trip to CSU after showing signs of discomfort while trying to urinate. Thankfully, his physical exam, blood work, and ultrasound all came back normal, and he was able to p*e on his own during the visit. 🙌

His urinalysis results showed some blood and bacterial material, likely from a calcium blockage (kidney stone) he did pass. This is a recurring issue for Alfie, but there’s no current blockage, and our care team has been keeping a close eye on him since.

The good news is that Alfie is doing well and feeling much better now!

The care team continues to monitor him closely, and we’re so grateful for your continued support and care for our residents.❤

We hope to help you kick off this first week back from the holidays with smiles and compassion! 💕

Today, in honor of their rescueversary, we’re throwing it back to when Garth, Brinkley, and Gilmour were just tiny babies! 🐷

Garth, Brinkley, and Gilmour were part of a large rescue of pigs trapped inside sheds, barns, and trailers. Their mother and six siblings were suffering and in desperate need of help. All the pigs on this property were living in their own f***s and surrounded by hazardous levels of ammonia in the air.

Thankfully, compassionate individuals stepped in to save them, giving them the chance to experience love, care, and the joy of simply being pigs. Now, they thrive in safety, a powerful reminder of how resilience and kindness can change lives. ❤

🌸In Loving Memory of Russel🌸

It is with a broken heart that we share the news of Russel’s passing. 💔

Russell came to Luvin Arms nearly eight years ago after being rescued from a horrific cockfighting operation. Despite the scars of his past—chipped beak and all—he slowly found peace, comfort, and even love here at the sanctuary. 🐓

Russell wasn’t the biggest fan of humans at first, and who could blame him? But over time, he let his walls down, especially during health checks when he’d melt into laps, enjoying being swaddled like the sweetheart he truly was. His tough exterior hid a heart full of love, a reminder of the strength it takes to trust after enduring so much.

In his final days, Russell spent his time happily pecking around with his ladies, soaking up the peace he so deeply deserved. He was adored by his flock and every human lucky enough to know him. The sanctuary feels a little emptier without his presence, but his memory will forever fill our hearts.
Rest easy, sweet Russell. You were, and always will be, one of a kind. ❤️

✨2024 was a year of growth, love, and resilience.

We welcomed incredible residents like Eileen and Dezi, Lilac, McJagger, and Diego, giving them the fresh start they deserved. We said heartbreaking goodbyes to beloved friends like Ishmael, Rudy, Teddy, Finn, Aspen, Eloise, Laxmi, and so many others who left their mark on our hearts.

This year also brought milestones worth celebrating: the completion of the potbelly pig sheds, the expansion of our pastures, and countless small moments that reminded us why we do what we do ❤️

None of this would’ve been possible without the compassion and dedication of our staff, volunteers, donors, and community. Together, we’ve created a ripple of kindness that’s changing the world, one life at a time.

Here’s to 2025—a new chapter, new challenges, and more lives to save! 🎉

Last week the new pasture was revealed to cow and sheep residents! Their excitement brought tears to those who watched as they ran and jumped with so much joy! Watch as Tito and Marley approach those standing by as if to tell them thank you ❤️ Thank you to everyone who supported the pasture expansion! ❤️Caring for 160+ animal residents is no small task—especially when many of them are seniors requiring extra attention. From daily medications and routine treatments to vet visits, our dedicated care team works tirelessly to ensure every resident is comfortable, happy, and loved. For specialized care, we’re grateful for the incredible support of professionals like our large animal vet, who handles herd health checks, vaccinations, and treatments like joint injections; our equine vet, whose expertise has been invaluable for these sensitive species; and our avian vet, who has done more for our birds than we ever thought possible. We’re also fortunate to collaborate with the CSU teaching hospital, whose team goes above and beyond to help our residents. Farm animals rarely get the chance to grow old, and caring for them as they age is both a privilege and a challenge. There are so many unknowns, but with the dedication of our team and the support of our amazing vets, we’re committed to providing the best care possible.
