Hawk Hollow Farm has a new litter of Hunt Terriers. Two have gone to their forever homes and three are still available. Two black and tan boys are left and one fawn and tan boy. They have had their first set of shots and have been dewormed. They are weaned and ready to go! They grew up spending time in both the house and the horse barns here and are comfortable in either environment.
They love to travel with you and.....THEY ARE THE COOLEST HORSE SHOW DOGS EVER!!!
Hunt Terriers are unusual dogs in the US. They are the ancestors of today's Jack Russell Terriers having their roots in Europe....mainly Germany and the Netherlands. Our Hunt Terriers in the US finish growing up about the same size as our Jack Russells. They are great dogs to rid your barn of vermin.
The German Hunt Terrier, also known as the Jagdterrier, is a breed that originated in Germany in the 1920s. Its ancestors include the Welsh Terrier, Old English Black-and-Tan Terrier, and English Fox Terrier. The breed was created by a group of hunters and game managers who left the Fox Terrier Club after World War I, believing the breed was losing its hunting abilities. They wanted to create a new breed that would be tenacious and intelligent and used rigorous breeding requirements to achieve this.
The German Hunt Terrier is still used in Germany for hunting badgers, boars, raccoons, squirrels, and wild pigs. In the United States, it is a popular choice for hunting raccoons, squirrels, and feral and wild pigs.
