So just an FYI to dog owners at there, if you have not heard there will be new regulations going into effect on August 1 affecting the importation of dogs into the US. This includes dogs who leave the US and return (with their owners or not) and also includes dogs who cross the border into Canada. The exact implications of this are somewhat difficult to figure out at the moment, and some of the certificates needed may not be available until June or July; but take homes include NO dogs under six months will be allowed into the country (no importing of puppies). Popping across the Canadian border for a dog show or quick vacation is going to become considerably more difficult, maybe impossible. And be sure if you plan to LEAVE the country with your pet that you address everything that needs to be done to bring him back BEFORE you go, or risk not being able to get them back in.
I have more questions than answers for you at this point, but keep an eye on this blog- it usually has good info and hopefully will update us as we know more. Apparently this all was passed by the CDC without necessarily working with the USDA who will have to be the ones to enforce it. Also be aware that not all veterinarians are USDA accredited, it is a separate process from typical state licensing.
