Also visit our satellite, Union Pet Clinic. We offer your pet social interaction in our day care, which is open Monday through Friday for your convenience. Pampering spa services are available in our grooming facility. We also work with Northern Kentucky K9 Training to offer obedience classes for young puppies and your older pet as well. The weather is changing, and with that often comes the common cold for dogs, also known as Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRD). CIRD can spread easily. Typically, highly contagious upper respiratory infections spread via various viral and bacterial pathogens that enter the oral and nasal cavities. Infectious dogs transmit the pathogens when they cough, sneeze, or have nose-to-nose contact with other dogs. Therefore, rapid spread occurs easily in daycares, boarding kennels, dog parks, play groups and shelters, much like children going to school or daycare.

It will be important to ensure your vaccines are up to date; but also, please realize that not every form of CIRD is addressed via vaccines. Vaccines for pets also work much like the flu vaccine does for humans, it may not prevent them from contracting the illness however, it helps to reduce the impact it can have without the vaccine.

For the safety of your pet and others, please let us know if you notice your dog coughing. We ask that you refrain from bringing them to daycare if they are exhibiting symptoms, and to contact your veterinarian. Thank you so much.
