Feature Friday! Meet Frankie, a 4 month old Catahoula Leopard mix. We saw Frankie for the last of her puppy vaccines and she was a perfect angel, and VERY into her peanut butter bribe- see the video in the comments 😂 Frankie was recently adopted from a local shelter (Helen Woodward). If you’re in the market for a puppy, PLEASE look to rescue first. Our shelters and rescues are all in crisis right now- some are nearly at double capacity with pets living in temporary crates in lobbies and hallways. You can find all types of dogs (and cats!), including purebred and puppies in need of a good home without using a breeder. Frankie says !

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my wonderful clients! I’m thankful for YOU, who allow me to do what I love and take care of your pets every day. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday with your friends and family. Also, a big thank you to ER vets and staff for holding down the fort today- you’re the real MVP’s and may the pancreatitis cases be kept to a minimum 🤞🏻

Feature Friday today is one of our newest patients, Diggie Smalls. Diggie is a 10 week old St. Bernard that we recently saw for his first puppy exam. Unfortunately he’s likely got entropion, a condition in which the eyelids roll in and cause irritation to the eyes. He will be seeing our favorite eye specialist next week and should be good as new after a corrective surgery. Thankfully his owners are being proactive and getting him help early which will avoid a lifetime of discomfort for him! Swipe through to see some adorable cuteness from his first visit!

We have a special feature Friday today, and that’s Sancho! This sweet boy has been battling aggressive cancer for a while and has defied the odds and overcome some big hurdles to still be here. He recently celebrated his 12th birthday and had a party with all his friends to celebrate. Happy b-day Sancho!! 🥳

Is anyone in the Escondido area missing a sweet cat? This guy was in my yard tonight- no chip and not neutered. He looks young (maybe a year old). He hopped the fence and ran off before I could grab him, just afraid he’s going to get eaten 😞 feel free to share!

Thank you to my neighbors for voting to make SoCal Mobile Veterinary Care a neighborhood fave for 2023! This award is such a honor to receive and helps us to continue to grow in the community and connect with more pet owners. I truly have the best clients and appreciate each and every one of you!

I’m blown away to be a finalist for the FACE Animal Hero Awards! It’s such an honor just to have been nominated, let alone to advance in something like this. Thank you all so much for your votes and please continue to support the FACE Foundation- if you are looking for an organization to support, this one does an amazing job supporting the pets and owners in need right here in San Diego. I witnessed countless of my patients’ lives saved by their grants during my time in the ER world, so that makes this an extra special honor for me to be involved in this! ❤️ 🐾

I think everybody at this point (hopefully) knows not to leave their dogs in the car even for a minute as that can lead to heatstroke extremely quickly, but sometimes this is a more easily forgotten fact! When it is hot and sunny out, the ground can burn your dog’s paws as well. A good rule of thumb to follow in the hot weather is to stick to morning or evening walks, don’t overdo it in terms of exertion or duration, and if the ground feels too hot to comfortably lay your hand on for 10 seconds, it’s too hot for your pup’s paws!

Happy July! We will be featuring some educational content this month created by .afterbaby, who was an ER/ICU tech for many years and knows her stuff! We’re starting with this timely reminder about the upcoming holiday. While the parades, fireworks, BBQ’s, etc are fun for us, they aren’t the best places for our pups. The best thing to do is to leave them home with light sedatives on board if they get anxious, calming music to drown out the loud noises, and comfortable place for them to rest. Have a safe and happy 4th of July! 🇱🇷🎆

Meet Kona, one of our new favorite puppy patients! The first picture is from her first puppy visit where she weighed in at 6.8 lbs, and today she weighed in a third of her body weight heavier, only 3 weeks later. As you can see from her other pics (her first pup cup and peanut butter treats for her shots), this girl loves to eat 😂 Shes the happiest little pup and we can’t wait to watch her grow!

Please send positive thoughts to this little lady (Callie Brown) today as she heads in to surgery to have her thyroid tumor removed…she is in great hands with one of Dr. Brown’s mentors from her internship and will hopefully be home and on the road to recovery in the next 1-2 days ❤️

Feature Friday time! Meet this handsome love muffin, Scout. He would like to show everyone the shaved belly he earned during his recent work up 😂 Scout was showing some signs of GI distress including vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss, and after investigation likely has inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD. He’s now on a special diet and a steroid, and happily doing much better!

I got to see one of my favorite patients yesterday! This is Reagan, who is the sweetest old lady Golden but HATES going to the vet clinic. We’ve been working with her at home to manage her arthritis and weight loss, and we’re happy to report she’s showing more energy and spunkiness already! Yesterday we stopped by for a quick urgent care visit for a torn nail, and she was happy to pose and show off her giraffe bandage. Swipe through to see an adorable picture of her with her dad!

Happy Easter everyone! Today’s post is a serious one, since this is something we see all too frequently around this time of year. Many people do not realize that lilies are absolutely deadly to cats- they can go into kidney failure from nibbling a leaf, licking pollen, even drinking a small amount of water a lily has been in. Often, you don’t realize they have even ingested anything because the signs of illness show up 2-3 days later, when it’s too late to save them a lot of the time. If you have a cat, save yourself the risk and just do NOT have lilies in your house at all- it’s not worth the risk, even if you think your cat will leave them alone. If you do have a cat that’s come into contact with a lily, get them to the ER IMMEDIATELY (before they become sick). They best chance they have to survive is IV fluids to prevent damage to the kidneys. Thanks as always to my brilliant colleague Julie Fischer for creating this graphic that I share every year- if we can save even one cat with this information, it’s worth it! Feel free to share!

We do a lot of “scary” things like blood draws and shots with treats and other positive reinforcement to make our visits as stress free as possible! Here you can see Dr. Brown drawing some blood from Cali’s back leg while she’s happily getting some peanut butter from mom (she didn’t even notice the poke). You know you’re doing something right when you even attract the interest of the cat 😂 Hazy wanted to make sure that she supervised and didn’t miss out on any goodies that Cali may have dropped!
