Saturday was pure magic at Teca Tu! So many wiggly tails, puppy kisses, and happy hearts as adorable pups found love—and our wonderful new director, Kate, got to meet the amazing community that makes it all possible. 💕

Icing on the cake? Our puppies Honey, Twirl and Freckles found their forever homes. Twirl's adopters spent all day with her, and finally made the decision to take her home. They own a bed and breakfast in Chimayo and have been on the lookout for a mascot to greet guests that stay with them.

But wait, there’s more! We’re back at PetSmart TODAY from 11:30-2:30 with a van full of cuteness, ready to steal hearts and find forever homes.

🌵🌵So many of our Puppy Love auction donors found us through adoption—and we LOVE that! Just like little George, who had quite the dramatic beginning to life.

When George’s mama arrived at the shelter, she was so severely matted from neglect that we couldn’t even tell head from tail. After carefully shaving away pounds of fur… surprise! She was pregnant and ready to give birth! Just hours later, tiny George and his sisters made their grand entrance into the world.

After 10 weeks in a loving foster home, George found his perfect match—Anna, an amazing artist with her own pottery studio. Now, he spends his days as the best little studio dog, supervising every masterpiece and even helping students with his keen eye for balance and form.

You may have seen our post yesterday about the deluge of dogs we’ve received - we are grateful to our volunteers for coming in to walk dogs, engage them in enrichment activities, or to just sit with them! 🆘 Help. We are overwhelmed by a deluge of dogs and we’re **waiving adoption fees**! In the span of just days, two large groups of abandoned dogs—32 in total—have swamped our already overcapacity shelter. First, 17 dogs arrived, crammed into a horse trailer because it was the only thing large enough to transport them. One of the dogs (white dog in photo) had been been hit by a car at some point in the last few weeks, and suffered a diaphragmatic hernia, where the organs are pushed through the diaphragm and into the lungs. She required intense surgery and weeks of recovery. Then, as we struggled to make space and vet the new dogs, another 15 were surrendered all at once. Our little shelter has just 22 dog kennels and 8 puppy pens—sit with that for a moment and you’ll understand how suddenly receiving 32 dogs in an already full shelter could make us feel like we’re drowning.

With every kennel already filled, we have been forced to pay for emergency offsite boarding at multiple facilities. We are also working tirelessly to find transport opportunities to out-of-state rescue partners and explore every possible lifesaving avenue.

To be discarded like this, in such staggering numbers, is devastating. They’ve been failed once, but we refuse to fail them again.

We have long fought to prevent suffering before it starts, offering free spay and neuter services to the community and completing over 7,000 free surgeries every year, flur days per week. But no amount of prevention can undo the past for these 32 dogs—or the many others who also flood our kennels—because they need homes NOW.

In addition to waiving fees, each adopted dog and puppy will go home spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm tested, and with six months of free heartworm prevention. For these dogs, the past is written—but their future can start today with a home.

✨When Nanook arrived on New Year’s Eve, he was frozen in time, a tiny traveler lost between worlds. A pup caught in the void, too cold for the earth to claim, too fragile for the stars to hold. An animal control officer found him lifeless on the ground, his body was ice, his breath barely a whisper—and his temperature didn’t even register on a thermometer. But the universe isn’t so easily denied.

🌠 With careful hands and a little cosmic magic, we called Nanook back from the edge, balancing on the precipice of a New Year and new life. Drop by warmed drop of fluids, his spirit returned. Beat by beat, his heart chose to stay. He fought through the aftershocks—seizures, the effects of starvation, and the weight of a life almost lost—but this little explorer had galaxies left to see.

💫 After five weeks of love and stardust healing in his medical fosters’ homes (thank you Barb Tebbel & Dr. Lilly!), Nanook found his destined orbit. His new mom took one look at him during our event at Petco on Saturday and knew she couldn’t leave without her little voyager. The pup who once hovered between worlds now has a universe to call his own, wrapped in the gravity of love, warmth, and a forever constellation.
