All active registered voters should have received a ballot for the election. If you have not returned your ballot and do not want to vote in person at the polls, you can return your ballot to 81 Main Street no later than Monday, November 4, 2024 (there is a secure drop box for after hours and weekend drop off). Another option is to deliver the ballot to the polls no later than 7pm Tuesday, November 5, 2024 (Essex Middle School, 60 Founders Road).

Please remember to seal your voted ballot in the certificate envelope and sign the envelope before dropping it off.

If you want to vote in person at the polls, and you have the ballot that was mailed to you, please bring the ballot with you. If you prefer, you can fill in your choices before you arrive at the polls and deposit the ballot into the machine after you have been checked in.

If you come to the polls to vote and you do not have a ballot and our records indicate one was mailed to you, you will need to sign an affidavit stating that you do not have your ballot before another ballot can be given to you.

If you are not on the checklist and you want to vote, you will need to complete a Voter Registration application. You can register to vote online or visit the Clerk’s Office before Monday, November 4 or at the polls on November 5. The Clerk’s Office is open 8am to 4:30pm.

The polls will be open from 7am to 7pm on Tuesday, November 5 at Essex Middle School, 60 Founders Road. Voters in line by 7pm will be able to vote. Unfortunately, anyone who shows up after 7pm will not be allowed to vote. This is per State law. Please plan your day accordingly and allow extra time if you plan to vote in person.

Visit https://www.essexvt.org/245/VOTER-INFORMATION for more information about voting.

Hi!
Warning: long post

Based on yesterday's poll, we will extend our hours to 9-4, beginning today. Here are the reasons:
We are two people doing this. We have no employees. We are not paid to sit and wait for customers when nobody comes (as a minimum wage employee would be-which we cannot afford). We have surveyed our busy times and between the hours of 3-7 very few people come- I'm talking 1 or 2 customers. We have been doing this for 30 years and that is a lot of survey data. Which is why historically we have not been open say, 8-8 or 8-5 , things like that. Perhaps it is our location? Slightly harder to get to, not on a main road or highway?...hope you can understand. As we are aging, this very physical job is getting more and more difficult to do every year. This season, in particular, has been very challenging for me to get all the pruning done and mowing. It has rained up here almost every day for a while and I have mowed probably 3 times more than normal. Which as you can see is now very difficult to accomplish as the crop is huge and berries fall off when mowed near...don't want to be the bearer of bad news, just wanted to explain why we cannot be open 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week like other places. This is also a reason we do not sell our berries in stores anymore-we have no employees anymore. As for not being open on Monday? We have seen over many years 1 or 2 customers the entire day. Plus I need a day to catch up with the mowing and pruning-I have always preferred to not do this while we are open, to give customers a quiet, picking experience. I wanted to share with you openly and honestly why we are open fewer hours than other farms. The caveat for us is, often, many berries never get picked. It is our price to pay, for getting older, and not being able to afford more labor. Thanks for reading. Hope to see ya'll up on the hill πŸ™‚

For those of you who did not know, I lost both leggs(33 yrs) and Kit within 12 hours in early March this year. It has been an emotional struggle to stay on an even keel of every day passing the stall Leggs lived in for just over 30 years and expecting my little shadow Kit(14 years my little buddy) to be right behind me each time I opened a door. I feel them both still with me in spirit, a shadow here, a soft nicker or padding of little feet there. I have no regrets or should haves with either of them other than wishing they could have lived longer healthy lives. Both healthy til the end, am grateful they did not suffer long bouts of illness or bad health. And forever grateful they were such a big part of my life πŸ’” And so very grateful for the compassion and care from Dr Steve (from LAMA )and his staff for Leggs and Kit over the years. Also Dr Kim Henneman for 30 years of chiropractic, acupuncture and all her other magic keeping him balanced and happy through the years … and all the special doggie treats and attention for Kit on her visits.
