Sorry for going MIA for the past week, had a couple family emergencies pop up and then took a couple days of much needed reprieve at the beach.

To give a long awaited update of the 3 fluffy kittens we trapped a few weeks back, they have made it through their quarantine and are working on settling into our cat room where we have our Looney Tunes and Fruits.
The Tunes and Fruits are interested in their new friends, but we haven’t let them interact outside of their cages just yet. We like slow introductions 😊

From left to right we have:
🐈Ms. Kitty
🐈‍⬛Mr. Fudge
🐈‍⬛Mr. Mousse

They are all getting spayed/neutered this Friday ✨

They are still not available for adoption as of yet. We’re hoping within the next couple weeks to have them available, but they still are quite skittish and still getting acclimated to a domesticated lifestyle 🐱🤍

We are in need of more fosters!!!

Gearing up for kitten season is no small task and we need your help to intake as many cats and kittens this upcoming spring and summer as possible.

We do not have any kittens in our care that are actively needing a foster at this moment, BUT it is a very fluid situation and we cannot take in any more cats OR kittens without additional fosters at this time anyway, so we need your help!

We provide all supplies (food, litter, veterinary care), we just ask that you provide a loving home and an indoor environment for the cat(s)/kitten(s) to thrive in while they await their furever homes. Commitments to fostering can heavily vary. Most young kittens get adopted quickly once we get them fully vetted.
Even if you can foster for a few weeks, a month, on an emergency basis, etc. we would love to hear from you!

Please message us with any questions you may have and if you’re ready to take the plunge, here is the link to our foster application:

https://form.jotform.com/220578374811156

We can’t do this with you! It is bittersweet seeing a foster kitty going to a new home, but an incredibly rewarding journey, we promise.

Here are some fun facts about the cats we currently have in our care 🐱

🐾 We have 21 cats in our care at the time of this post

🐾 15 of those 21 cats are available for adoption!

🐾 Out of the 21 cats, there are 6 different sets of siblings:
🐱Our Looney Tunes litter (we still have 3 up for adoption, 2 of them have an interested adoptive family, the Tunes have just been a little under the weather from a respiratory infection)
🐱Our fruit litter (all 3 are still available)
🐱Our matrix litter (3 are still available)
🐱Lulu & Lola are sisters (both available)
🐱Onyx & Mouse are brothers (almost available)
🐱The 3 very fluffy kittens we recently trapped are all siblings (not available yet, and we’ll share the names we picked out with you soon 😉)
** there are still other cats in our care that are available, these are just the siblings we have! **

🐾 Besides the 3 fluffy kittens, all of the cats in our care are over 7 months old! Adoptions have been a bit slow and we’ll obviously keep them well loved and cared for until the right families come along.

🐾 One adult cat we have (Big Tune) is declawed, sad, we know… ☹️
And he is still awaiting the purrrfect home ❤️‍🩹

🐾 We still have the Looney Tunes mom as well, Jessica Rabbit, now more fondly known as JLo. She’s awaiting her furever family too, and would do great with a laid back person or family that just wants a kitty companion to coexist with.

🐾 If anyone remembers the two kittens we had, Salt & Pepper, we still have their mom, Willow, as well! She can be a bit shy at first but really takes a liking to females human companions once she gains that trust.

A bit of a long post, but we love to show off the unique kids we have in our care and share with you all things you may have not known prior. They are all loved and thriving in their environments, but we do believe they would do even better in a permanent home of their own 🐾🤍🐱

💥 AUCTION UPDATE 💥

Slight modification to our upcoming online auction ~

We felt that 15 days was a bit too long to run the online auction and didn’t want anyone forgetting that they had bid on an item, lose track of an item they wanted to win, or be waiting on pins and needles for a longer than necessary time to actually win an item.
SO we are going to have our auction run for one week (7 days), instead of the initial 15 days.

We are so excited and really hope to see lots of bids and have a great turnout overall!!!
We already have over 25 items that we are excited to share with you all and also showcase the love we’ve received from local businesses who have been so generous to donate to the auction so far.

Please continue sharing with your friends and spread the word. If the turnout is successful, we’d love to host annual auctions and make it more of a yearly tradition!

Thank you! 🐾🤍🐱

🐾 It’s $5 Friday! 🐾

Happy Friday, friends! Our rescue runs on love, but we also need your help to stay afloat and support the cats in our care as well as the ones we will take in, in the near future.
Just $5 may not seem like much, but when our community comes together, those small donations add up to food, medical care, and shelter for our rescued kitties!

Can you spare $5 today to help us continue our mission? Every dollar makes a difference! 💕

After all, a $5 donation almost equates to the cost of a coffee ☕️

As always, Thank you for your kindness and support!

🤍 ADOPTED 🤍

🐾🐱🐾 POSTING ON BEHALF OF A PRIOR FOSTER/VOLUNTEER OF OURS 🐾🐱🐾

This beautiful lady is Ivy
She was born in the spring of 2019, so she will be 6 years young this year!

Unfortunately her humans have to move to a location that is not compatible with owning a kitty anymore and have no choice but to help Ivy find a perfect new home. We know this is an extremely hard decision for them.
Ivy is sweet as can be and loves to sit in your lap or ride around on your shoulder. She is very friendly and loves attention in a quiet environment without too much stress. She is friendly with dogs (calm ones) but prefers to be the only cat and can be very fearful of other feline friends.
She has lived indoors most of her life but will sometimes sneak out to the front deck in the summer to sunbathe. She will come with a transition amount of her food, bowls, litter box, cat tree and toys if her new owner would like as well as a temporary anxiety medication to help her through the transition.

She is currently feeling a little stressed and lonely because her special human is only home half of the week and has started to over groom herself so she is in need of a home where she can get the attention she deserves and the opportunity to settle in quickly. With the help of the vet her human has been trying to help her feel better through this transition. She has otherwise received a clean bill of health and is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and gets regular flea prevention and dewormer.

Ivy’s family is not asking for a rehoming fee, they are just asking that she goes to a good home. We would still like an adoption application of ours completed to help do our due diligence of finding her the best family.

💛✨HIGHLIGHTED ADOPTION POST✨💛

We’re trying to showcase more of the kitties we have in our care because to be fair, we’ve had some of them for quite some time! To help more kitties, our current sweet kids need and deserve their forever homes. 🤍

Today’s special post is…. Our beloved fruit basket!

We have Kiwi, Guava and Papaya.

We trapped them when they were about 10-12 weeks old and pretty feral. They are about 8 months old now and still pretty small!

Kiwi is our daintiest little girl. She’s shy when approached quickly, but recently coming more and more out of her shell due to her big brother Guava showing her people aren’t so scary! Kiwi loves to play with her siblings and appreciates a nice treat.

Guava is our biggest boy, and also the bravest! He’s lead the way for himself and his little sisters to become more used to people. He still has his moments of being shy, but nothing a snack can’t fix!

Papaya is our beautiful little panther! She is the most shy with people, but gets along well with the other kitties. She loves to observe the roughhousing, but also partake in it.

We are still working day by day to get these kids used to us. These three all very highly food motivated, so that is the quickest way to their heart. With patience, time and love, we believe our little fruits will truly blossom into perfect, ripe fruits 😉

They are spayed/neutered, microchipped and received age appropriate vaccinations.

Their adoption fee is $125 each, $200 for two, or if someone wanted all three fruits, message us!
**if you are interested in adopting a solo fruit, any of them would do best with an existing cat in the home**

We’re going through a little bit of rebranding so don’t be surprised if you see a bit of a difference in our logo and a slight change to the name of the rescue.

Trying to get everything a little more aesthetically pleasing and our name has always felt a little long so the decision was made to drop “Society” and stick with ‘The Boring Safe Haven’

You’ll also noticed our established date changed from 2022 to 2021…. Well I don’t know how it got lost in translation but we were established with the IRS and State of Oregon in 2021 🫣 better late than never to fix it!

We’ll be updating our website soon and hopefully creating some merchandise for purchase as well!

We’re excited for what the year holds for us ✨🐾

✨HIGHLIGHTED ADOPTION POST✨

Here is our sweet, handsome fella, Big Tune!

We originally adopted out Tune when he was a kitten, but he was surrendered back to us nearly 6 months ago due to “behavioral issues”. We were told those issues were urinating outside the litter box, but come to find out his adopted owner had him declawed on his front paws. (This goes against our adoption contract and we do NOT condone this horrific procedure.)

We immediately picked up this sweet kid and patiently helped him through his traumas. Since having him back, he has not once urinated outside the litter box. (We use pellet litter as we feel it is the best option for him as it is easier to scoop than clay litter.)

Fast forward to today, he is the sweetest boy! He’s curious, loves to play and hangout with his foster brothers. Most importantly, he loves to be loved. He will just lay up next to you on the couch and roll around waiting for pets!

We’re surprised that Big Tune has yet to find a new home. He will probably take a little time to get used to his new environment. He is 1.5 years old and up to date on all vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. 🤍

His adoption fee is $100 and he would do best in a home with other kitties.

As a continuation of our previous post, we had a few people reach out asking about how they can help through the BottleDrop Give Program and the Fred Meyer Community Rewards Program.
We’ll also drop our Amazon Wishlist link at the bottom of the post as well!
These are great ways to help us out - the first two are at no cost to you 🐾

BottleDrop Give:

If you normally recycle your bottles in a recycling bin, don’t like taking them in, or you just want them off your hands, please think of us!!

We can either pickup your cans directly from you OR we can supply you with the blue BottleDrop bags with our “bag tags” and you can drop them off at any BottleDrop location or we can come back and grab the bags from you once they’re full.

All proceeds from the recycled bottles and cans will directly benefit the rescue.

Please message us or comment if you’re interested and we’ll get connected!

Fred Meyer:

• Sign up for the Community Rewards program by linking your Fred Meyer Rewards Card to Family Development Center at www.fredmeyer.com/communityrewards
You can search for us by our name (The Boring Safe Haven Society) or by our non-profit number XN149.

• Then, every time you shop and use your Rewards Card/Alternate ID, you are helping The Boring Safe Haven earn a donation!

• You still earn your Rewards Points, Fuel Points, and Rebates, just as you do today. This program is no cost to you whatsoever, the donations come to us from Fred Meyer/Kroger directly based on your spending with them.

Post #3 adding to our community engagement and some facts about us!

We love transparency and are always happy to share any information you may be curious about. In this post we’ll cover some financial things.

🐱 A big question we get asked fairly often is: “How do you afford to care for all these cats?”
The short answer is: donations and the adoption fees we collect, but mostly donations including large lump sums from the founder of the rescue.
We rely heavily on those that support us and what we do. We are a small rescue and there are times we do struggle. Our main priority is making sure we have enough funds for food and emergencies. Lack of funds is a partial reason why do have to turn some cats away, sadly.

🐱 We know that money is tight for so many people, especially after the holiday season. If you’re ever curious about how you can help beyond just sending us “x” amount of dollars, we are part of the Fred Meyer Community Rewards Program and BottleDrop Give. If you’re interested in assisting us through either of these programs, reach out and we can get you more info!

🐱 Another question we get asked is: “How do you afford to spay/neuter all these cats when costs of spaying and neutering is so high?”
We are fortunate to be a rescue that has the ability to utilize Salem Friends of Felines already low-cost clinic for spay and neuter procedures. While we are now located in Estacada, we generally don’t make the drive down to Salem for appointments unless we have multiple cats to take at one time, primarily to make the drive worth it for us.

🐱 Beyond food and vet care, litter, toys, treats, bedding, etc. we have many other fees we have to pay either monthly or annually. The bulk of them include -

Monthly:
Liability Insurance
ShelterLuv (our online platform that holds all the info and records for the cats in our care)

Annually:
Taxes (yes, even nonprofits have to pay taxes)
Annual Reportings
Business Registrations
Licensing with the Oregon Department of Agriculture
Website Management & Hosting Fees

There is so much money that goes into rescuing, and again we rely heavily on those that support us! We can’t do this without you, and we appreciate each and every person that adopts, fosters, donates, shares, and spreads the word about us. We do our best to keep our adoption fees low, but now you have a lot more information to consider what all is going into this when you support us. We want to make sure we’re always above board because the animals are counting on us ✨

✨ Successfully trapped these three very fluffy babies today! ✨

These kids will be quarantining for two weeks, during which we will work on taming them/acclimating them to people. They are VERY feral and spicy right now 🌶️

None of them are available for adoption at the moment and we will not allow holds on them until we can get them more use to people 🤍

We appreciate all the support!!

Continuing on with community engagement, here is some additional info about the rescue you may or may not know about us!

🐱 While we are focused on cats at the moment, the rescue originated from rescuing puppies. Once we officially established ourselves as a rescue with the state and IRS in 2021, the first animal we *officially* rescued was a chinchilla! He did end up being a foster failure and continues to live out his best days with that same home we placed him in.
🐱 At the moment, we only have a few VERY dedicated fosters for our rescue. While this may seem low, they still make a huge impact for us. We do have other fosters we can contact to step in when needed, but we really need more fosters that are in it for the long haul. Our founder (Sidnee) generally houses the majority of our foster cats.
🐱 You may ask yourself, what types of cats/kittens do we intake? Well… the answer can get a little complicated..
To simplify, we would love nothing more than to take in EVERY feline in need, we do focus heavily on mom’s and kittens. The vast majority are stray or feral. We do not do many owner surrenders of single cats, unless they are previous Boring Safe Haven Alumni’s cats. We will ALWAYS take back our rescues if circumstances with their adopters change.

We will continue to pop in with more information on the rescue!
Drop any comments if you have specific questions or topics you’d like us to cover in one of our next informational posts ✨
