Wow! When we asked for support in the final days of 2021, our horse-loving community showed up in a big way. Thank you for helping us raise a life-changing amount of donations for the horses in our community.

From December 29-31, together we raised $54,629 to support our winter rescue efforts and care for our horses in rehab and training. With these donations we’ll be able to continue to feed, house, train and get needed veterinary to the horses that need us the most!

Help our little filly find her footing.

Four-month-old Pinot came to Sound Equine Options in July with deep, infected wounds on the front of both hocks. Her injuries were so severe she was dragging her hind leg. We assume she got caught in barbed wire and her panic to escape left her with these wounds.

Over the past four months, Pinot has gotten surgery at OSU Veterinary Hospital, received stall rest with daily bandage changes and medication, and weekly vet checkups. As the weeks passed, Pinot’s mobility started to improve. She went from dragging her leg to walking normally.

Fast forward to today, Pinot is thriving. She is out of her bandages, getting daily turnout time and making friends with another weanling at her foster home. She’s even able to kick up her heels and lope in the pasture. These basic horse movements weren’t even a possibility for Pinot just a few months ago.

Pinot isn’t fully healed yet and still needs the granulation tissue on her right hind leg monitored closely.

Haven’t really posted an update on here after the Petroff dispersal sale.. it was a long hot busy few weeks! But a lot was accomplished too. Out of about 220 wild unhandled horses there are only a handful left as of today!! The horse community is sure amazing! 🌟

Between my daughter and I we came home with 3 new additions. 2 likely will stay and 1 will eventually be for sale. We will spend some time with the yearlings before we make a decision.

He wasn't listening, we knocked both poles and barrels, I just knew something was off. I decided to give him the cooling linement shampoo. As I was shampooing him you could just see him relax. I paid special attention to his neck, back and legs. I washed him and rinsed him. I walked out of washroom and you could smell the wintergreen. He smelled as if he rolled in a wintergreen field. I put him in the stall and 2 hrs later we ran our fastest time of the weekend. He was relaxed and listening. I say it had the help of the wintergreen, eucalyptus and camphor that is in the shampoo. You have got to try this shampoo. It is amazing.”

This week has been a spa and pampering kind of week for this big ol ranch horse ... lol. I think he’s starting to like it tho. Who doesn’t love a good deep tissue massage, especially when you’re starting to workout again... #breezehorsemanship #magnawave

A few weeks ago my dad went to a lay-down clinic with his horse Howard, I’d asked him when he got to Arizona this weekend would he help teach Frosty... Frosty was so calm around a new person and listened to him very well. He even was in the larger arena, so she could have left at any moment. He wanted to try it without any ropes or tying her leg up, and just worked on pressure and release... in a 2hr period he got her to lay down twice! Great patience and cues from my dad and awesome try and willingness from Frosty! 💗🦄

We are making progress!! Added some weight and “weight shifters” to help her get ready for a person. She handled it like a champ. 😎🦄

Frosty’s session today: first time with a bit, 4th time with a saddle. Pretty amazing lil girl! Unhandled and unhealthy in December to sweet, loving and almost broke by March lol. 😎

Back home after 2 weeks of horse shows... Haven’t done anything with this girl for over that due to a busy schedule. She had her 2nd trim today, stood like a champ. Better than the older horses lol! On our way back to the turnout i decided to see what she thought of the trailer, she hadn’t been in one or near one since she was dropped off in December (unhandled)... She’s such a good girl. No hesitation. No question. And even backed out. We did this twice and both were the same. 💕💕

Lil recap of Frosty’s session today! Ending with working on the mounting block... teaching her to side pass to me, instead of wanting to face me. Such a smart lil thing she is, literally took me less than 5 minutes to get her to do it.

Day 10: lil Frosty had a busy day today! Lunging is going well, (hard to lunge with one hand and video) lol. She’s learning to go in both directions, and not pull away in the big arena. 1st tying lesson today went well. A few pull backs when horses riding by got too close, but she gave to the pressure well and after about 2 pull backs, she stopped. We also had a pony session, where my arms were getting too tired of pulling her, so i came up with a new solution.... (video). The cable tie worked great and she stopped pulling. Not much can pull Pistol over 😉 And finally we were able to have a full body bath! Finally was able to wash that tail!!! (Not perfect but a lot better than what it was)!
