JAS Essentials

JAS Essentials JAS Essentials strives to provide an all Natural,Hand Made products for your pets. This is of course includes what we call "nibblies". Terrifying!

Our Mission: Along the years of being Jewel's caretaker, I have always tried to provide the best possible care I could. Being a reformed starved horse Jewel is ruled by her tummy! As my diet and exercise transformed, in order to keep up with and endurance Arabian, I started to take a look at the "nibblies" I was giving her. Some of the exact ingredients I was trying to avoid, I was inadvertently

giving to her. Hmmmm.... Let the cooking begin! I started these recipes ten years ago. As life sometimes does, they got put on the back burner (pun intended). Single mom, large job, bills, football practice and a herd to take care of... dreams on hold. Now ten years later, I walked away from my large, stress filled, going to kill me job to feed my heart and soul as Jewel has always asked me to do. How can you resist those big brown eyes framed in silver lashes! It is our hopes to create a "Nibblie" that is as natural, great tasting and filled with love as possible. Living in a small community it is easy to see and hear the effects of the economy on small business owners. With that in mind, we look for local, organic, suppliers as much as possible. We (my family is now being hoodwinked into this endeavor!) do our very best for limited chemicals, coloring, no preservatives and sustainable conditions as possible. We are always growing and learning on this journey! Our products are hand made and hand packaged. Hence, you will see differentiating color and size. The batches that don't pass, my herd devours! "Mess up on some more mom!"
The long term vision for JAS Essentials is to pay Jewel's gift forward. It is my dream to evolve JAS into a not for profit entity. Profit would then be utilized as donations to youth therapy riding camps and rescue organizations in our local NW. I can't imagine a better way to pay it forward to "The Magical Horse that Came to Stay".

Jewel on an occasion would ask if we could stop on a ride and just be. Watch whatever. This is a different moment, that reminds me of those times.

Deliberately sat with this all last month. Had a wonderful conversation with the author of the following, (please see the link to follow) and was granted permission to post the following. I received this with Jewel's braided tail from my vet.

The Best Horses in Heaven, They have No Tail

The best Horses in heaven
They have have no tail.
This is a rule they all know without fail.
For when a new horse arrives with a short cut bob, they all know that this horse did a very good job.

Her owner could not bear to part with her friend, so she saved her tail, wrapped in ribbons and in braids, to hold with her memory in a very loving way.

To enter heaven without a tail is an honor, a message, that without fail announces to everyone, far and wide... that this horse was more than a wonderful rise.

This horse was loved and cherished by one and when her time serving on this earth was done...

She left behind
A broken heart and soul, from which she will never part.

We lost Jewel today. I am numb, heartbroken, devastated. My four legged soul mate. It has been an extremely tough two years. I made her a promise, as she passed... I will continue the dream she gave me. Recipes, books, healing. HOPE,FAITH, BELIEF, LOVE and TRUST.

Dearest God in Heaven
Give me strength to guide my horse.
Make my hands soft and my head clear.
Let my horse understand me and I him.

My heart you have blessed with a special love of these animals,
let me never lose sight of it
My soul you have gifted with a deep need for them.
As the sun gleams on an elegant head,
always may my throat tighten at the sound of a gentle nicker.

Let the scent of fresh hay and a new bag of grain always be sweet to me.
Let the touch of a warm nose on my hand always bring a smile.
I adore the joy of a warm day on the farm.
The grace and splendor of a running horse,
the thunder of its hooves makes my eyes burn and my heart soars.
Let it always be so.

Dearest God grant me patience,
for horses are harnessed wind and wind can be flighty.
Let me not frighten or harm them,
instead show me ways to understand them.

Above all, dear God, fill my life with them.
When I pass from this world, send my soul to no heaven without them.
For this love you have given me graces my existence.
I shall cherish it and praise you for it all the time.

Have you ever seen a laceration held closed with buttons? When we have a large laceration/cut over a high motion area like the hock or fetlock, we may use buttons to help hold the sutures in place. The buttons distribute the tension of the sutures across a larger area to prevent the sutures from breaking. This horse sustained a large laceration across the front of his hock. With the help of the 4 buttons this wound healed very well!
