Momo went his new home yesterday! He needed to be moved asap from his old home in Portland. Thank you to Shauna and family in Eugene for adding Momo to your herd of goats. He will have a pasture and goat buddies to play with.

Thanks to donors for making it possible for Momo to get neutered and other vet care to get him ready for adoption. Together we are making a difference!

It's spring, and with egg prices going up, people are "flocking" to feedstores to buy up chicks. Raising hens requires getting a coop, buying feed and shavings, cleaning the coop, etc. And then often finding a new home when they stop laying or turn out to be roosters.

Our hope is that people will realize they can get all the nutrients they need from plantbased diets.

Cookie and many other hens have come to live at Out to Pasture over the years from backyard flocks in the city. All the sanctuaries get way too many requests to take in chickens.

Rose and Daffodil were left behind by renters but now live at Out to Pasture. It's time people stopped getting animals if living on rental property. Also, don't goats for your grandchildren or to clear out blackberry bushes. Not unless you plan to take care of them and give them a lifelong home.

Pet goose Mitzy arrived recently with a chronic wing droop. An xray at Avian & Exotic Veterinary Care determined that it was not broken but most likely from an old injury and not fixable. After finishing quarantine, Mitzy is now happily roaming around the pasture with her buddy Zack.

Sir Didymus or Didy arrived at Out to Pasture several years ago after his sanctuary caretaker sadly died (Hockman Ranch Sanctuary).
Didy is an old pig on medication for arthritis and is transitioning to live in the older pig herd.

We just moved Didy this weekend using the walking pen.

Didy falls easily and can't be near mud or younger, more energetic pigs who could accidentally knock him over. Our older pigs are not aggressive and welcome older new pig buddies.
Just a few snorts and then he's in.

John just left for a 10 hour round trip drive to deliver ducks and chickens to a sanctuary in Southern Oregon. Ducks are especially hard to find homes for, and we are grateful to for taking them in.

Ducks and chickens can live 10 years or more, so that's something to think about before buying chicks at a farm store. Better to adopt adult rescue animals and commit to a lifelong home. There are too many unwanted animals and not enough rescues/sanctuaries.

The pig rescue community lost one of its best members and one of our good friends recently. Ron Hill (and his wife Patty) from the Northwest Miniature Pig Association have helped us with many pig rescues adventures over the last twenty years.

Fifteen years ago, Ron and Patty brought their pig rescue van to our local feedstore to help transport an unwanted pig named Walter. Walter's caretaker had plans to shoot him, but luckily, the feedstore owner took him in and called us.

The film school in Portland was doing a documentary on our sanctuary and met us that morning at the feedstore. After some effort, we got Walter loaded up in the van.
Ron drove off with Walter, and the film crew crowded into the back of the van, rock music playing.

That was a fun day that we will always remember fondly. And always appreciate Ron's friendship and willingness to help pigs in need.

Looking for a pet pig? Please do not buy a baby pig from a pig breeder. There are some very nice adult pigs needing rehoming.

Bette Rose is spayed, 5 years old, well behaved, and well cared for. Located in the Portland area.

Petunia is nearly 10 and also spayed, well-behaved, and well cared for. Located near Salem

There is a group of other nice pigs whose caretaker is unable to care for them or provide a mud free space. They are badly in need of safe homes.

These pigs are all pets and not for eating or breeding.
