Baby knuckles at only a couple months old has already defined odds here!
Knuckles has a spinal fracture and has been dealing with leg paralysis as a result of their injury.
although we do not know what happened to knuckles in the past we do know that the future is shining bright!
After consulting with our vet, we do not believe that knuckles is in any discomfort due to the spinal fracture. Nor do we think that the symptoms will get any worse.
The future of knuckles mobility is still undetermined, but what we do know is that in the short amount of time that we have been working with them, we have seen tremendous progress with mobility.
We are here to support knuckles in anyway we can.
Cold laser treatments, physical therapy, and a whole lot of love is what we are focusing on right now.
We also submitted a DNA sample since knuckles was already getting blood work done with our amazing vet @shiloh_vet_hospital and should have results on gender very soon!
Boy or girl, partial mobility or full,it doesnât matter. We will always be here for Knuckles!
The importance of learning the gender will help us with long-term care. Because of the spinal fracture, we have to be cautious if knuckles is female with egg laying which can aggravate their already compromised spine. If they are female, we will be sure to provide them with a hormonal implant as soon as they reach sexual maturity as a form of egg prevention.
Today is the last day to get into the giveaway to help us raise funds for Knuckles!
Knuckles has a long road of recovery but with a supportive flock behind them, the sky is the limits!
Will you help us help knuckles?
Yesterday we started the process of ordering a customized enclosure, just for them.
All donations are tax deductible and all donations go directly to the rescues here at the sanctuary !

(Iâve had to break up Cherry and Rickyâs updates in two videos. Here is Cherryleeâs. Rickyâs will be posted later today)
Oh Wednesday, CherryLee underwent a procedure that to my knowledge has never been done before.
Like most of her recovery. She continues to be a major ambassador for what a lot of love and good creative veterinarian medicine can do. We are so very grateful to have Dr. Rosen in our lives who has positively changed so many of our residents here with her creativity and knowledge for animal medicine.
CherryLee came to us after being severely, attacked by a dog and left in summer heat with a very infected necrotic face
When she came to us, she had to have multiple surgeries within the first month of her arrival on her face.
Sheâs completely missing the front portion of her skull and both ears
Over the course of the last few years cherry Lee has done remarkable! But we always knew that there would be a day when she might have to undergo more procedures as a result of her traumatic experience before arriving to the sanctuary
One of Cheryleeâs canals overtime has completely scarred over, leaving it nearly impossible for any wax to exit that ear canal.
On Wednesday, she had a temporary tube placed in her ear in hopes that it will encourage smooth healing and leave a more open pathway to hear for wax to exit .
Itâs been a couple days since the procedure and sheâs doing incredible. She doesnât seem bothered at all by the tube in her ear. Sheâs able to walk without a head tilt and we will have a recheck in two weeks to see if we have made progress.
Best case scenario it heals without scarring and we are able to remove the tube completely. Worst case scenario we have to come up with a permanent solution with a tube.
We are grateful for all the support that we continue to get that allows us to provide the best care pos

Did you know that some turkeys LOVE to be hugged and snuggled just like some people enjoy physical affection!
Turkeys are very emotional and complex creatures just like humans.
Each has their own personality, wants, and needs.
They can remember faces of people they have met, sounds and voices.
They are a walking, living and breathing mood ring.they can change the color of their head and neck to match their different moods and feeling.
They are a perfect mix between a raptor and a unicorn holding all the worldâs magic in their snoods.
Turkeys are AMAZING.
Heat wave at the sanctuary
What a heat wave at the sanctuary looks like!
The heat has been absolutely brutal this week and itâs only going to get hotter before cooling down!
This morning Alex got up early and headed over to the hardware store to pick up a few more industrial battery operated fans for the goats and birds.
We have been rotating between emptying and refilling waters to make sure they stay cool and clean.
Birds all have their misters on!
Itâs a warm day but we are so grateful for what we have here and what we have been able to provide for our residents thanks to the support of our amazing community
Love you fam. Stay hydrated!

Letâs wash Jobiâs Caruncles!
âď¸Caruncles are fleshy growths on the head and neck of turkeys that can be pale or bright red, white, or blue depending on their mood!
Both male and female turkeys have caruncles, but they are more pronounced in males.
âď¸Routine cleaning is necessary to prevent food build up, mold, and funk especially with male broad breasted breeds.
In this video, I am using a washcloth, diluted chlorhexidine solution in a sanitized spray bottle.
We do this a couple times a week to keep Jobi so fresh and so clean
Breakfast with Lemmy Roo hoo
Holding onto the hope that one day I wonât have to scream so loud for respect for our feathered friends.
Holding onto the idea that someday soon they will have protection, rights and gain the awareness that they deserve.
Birds are often looked over, discarded and not taken seriously.
They often do not receive the same attention, medical care or global awareness that other species might.
There is a huge need for bird advocacy. For bird welfare, and unfortunately bird rescue and sanctuary.
Thank you for continuing to support our little but might organization that focuses on the individual needs of avian species.
We love ya Fam â¤ď¸

Ash hand feeding little Johna and Robin lunch. They still havenât mastered the game of self feeding but are moving in the right direction and we will support them for as long as they need.
Ricky is spending some time with Loba, Papaya and Phoebe today! we feel like their yard is the best place for Ricky. Itâs calm, relaxing and full of wonky silliness which is exactly what Ricky is. Because of her slight neurological disorder and being blind we have been extremely careful, sensitive and patient with allowing her to meet the flock on her time and let us know where she feels most comfortable.Today was a big day for Ricky because she got to spend a little extra time with her friends (while mom monitors from a near distance).Gradually over the course of the next few weeks, we hope that she will let us know that she is ready to move out of the nursery And become a permanent roommate to the girls in this very special yard. Many have asked if Ricky will eventually join the waterfall in the Duck den, where the Pond is. Because of her limited vision, which makes her a little unsteady on her feet we do not feel comfortable with her being near Deepwater unsupervised. For now she will have daily swim time with our team â¤ď¸today is a huge vet day for us over here. If you have some spare change,a contribution would be really appreciated We canât do this alone PayPal: [email protected]:Theshoresanctuary
đWE NEED SUPPORTđ
Next Tuesday Lou will undergo a CT scan with @shiloh_vet_hospital to hopefully shine some light on what is going on with her.
after nearly a month of struggling with her appetite, she still has not started self feeding. We have friends, so many test, taking so much bloodwork and cultures. We still do not have the answers as to what is going on with her. Her appointment is expensive, but extremely necessary at this point. We have an estimation of $2,353.24 for her scan.
Jobi is also undergoing a procedure that same day to remove a growth thatâs bothering him on his neck. This procedure is estimated at $$1,452.20
Whanda has also been on the struggle bus this week. With her heart disease and her other medical conditions, we always have to take it very seriously when we notice a change. Not only has she been struggling with breathing but she is also experiencing loss of appetite. We currently have her on a different medication routine and we are closely monitoring her with help from our primary vet. She also has a appointment on Tuesday.
Itâs also Whisper pups 10th birthday and our sons 15th birthday today.
I mentioning this because we should be celebrating the both of them today but unfortunately, we are extremely overwhelmed and stressed out about the health concerns We have with some of our friends here and the mounting medical bills.
đWe were offered a $500 donation match for this week ONLY starting now.đ
please consider making a tax deductible donation to help us with our upcoming that appointment on Tuesday and to help us celebrate Whisper and Russellâs birthdays.
âď¸If we are able to raise $500 by Friday evening, it will be turned into $1000 towards our medical bills for the following Tuesday
when we say that no amount is two little we truly mean it. One dollar goes a long way. Can you imagine if every on,or even just half of our followers donated one dollar
Can you help us reach our goal?

Can we all stop to appreciate how cute lady John(formally Little John)âs nares are!
Cutest little piggy nose I ever did saw!
LJ made it into the main aviary yesterday and it was quickly noticed that they are definitely a lady!
She has already claimed her box,Is moving around amazingly with her boot and even though she isnât completely self feeding yet sheâs been exploring the deep seed dishes and we have hope she will be self feeding in no time!
We are currently working with some amazing friends to create her a very special, one of a kind boot/platform shoe to help her navigate her shortened leg due to a old brake that has fused in her hock joint.
Because she is unable to bend that joint,he compromised leg is much shorter then her other. She has been over compensating by putting a lot of pressure on the middle toe of her short in Leg. This has caused the foot to become quite deformed.
Getting LJ a customized shoe will give her the independence She deserves and wants!
Big big thank you to @officialscanimalshelter for giving this girl such good care while she was with them. Thank you to @pigeondiplomacy for reaching out to us,coordinating her placement with us and her transportation to San Diego. HUGE thank you to @mickaboorescue for driving her down to us
This work takes a flock family and we are so grateful for ours!
Papaya was born with a genetic condition that restricts the muscles in her neck. Due to this, she also has a curved spine.
Papaya receives routine cold laser therapy to help loosen her muscles and provide her with more mobility .
Papayaâs condition is not fixable, but it is manageable .
Papaya has been seen by multiple Avian vets.Has had testing and x-rays done and although her condition can be concerning and confusing to those that do not understand her complexed diagnosis. Please rest assured that Papaya is living her best life.
Just because something might look different does not mean that it is wrong.
Individualized care is our top priority here at our sanctuary.
We are so grateful to be able to give birds like papaya a safe place to be themselves .
