Previous studies have shown that pigs have the cognitive function in comparison to a 3 year old child. A 2020 study stated that they could be even smarter than that!

The intelligence of an animal is tested by several factors. A few of which are their ability to learn and the capacity of their memory.

Pigs can learn their name in under 2 weeks. They recognize routine within a week. Can remember and anticipate experiences. They have incredible problem solving capabilities. As well as the ability to learn and master complex tasks.

The way we like to describe them is as though they are a 5-8 year old child. While that still may not be totally accurate, that gives us a closer relation to their mental capacity.

Can you imagine grabbing a random 8 year old child, rolling them to their back, and tickling their feet?

Neither can we.

It is our aspiration to provide care that not only considers pigs as more than just animals but also the emotional and mental awareness that most pigs tend to have.

While they can't verbally consent (and probably wouldn't) to hoof care. They can be active participant in their hoof care when we take the time to detail what is being done.

Most frequently, for those pigs who like to kick, we tell them the calmer they are the quicker we are. We do our best to keep their brains engaged while we trim to avoid more panicked moments.

The behind the scenes of wrapping up a route.

Driving home in the middle of the night. To make it home to do laundry. To have a single day off. To then jump back on the road to do another route.

The sparse days we do get off are playing catch up at home. Spending time with our critters. Planning future routes. Creating educational content. Scheduling posts. Responding to inquiries.

While we do our best to respond in a timely manner, some days we are sleeping in because we didn't get home until early morning. Others we are taking the days off we have seriously.

Trimming is something we love to do. It also comes at a cost. It gives us freedoms and keeps us on a tight schedule.

We are different because we care about the animals involved to a fault. Even if that means trimming your critter by lamp light in the middle of the night.

We will typically drop whatever we have going on to be there in a timely manner. We may not have the fancy email notifications set up the way we would like, but we dedicate a lot of ourselves to what we do.

Kindness. Patience. Compassion.
It all makes the world go round.

We have a few people that we will be responding to on the 6th and those people have first dibs on slots remaining for routes in 2024.

This is the beginning of routes for 2025. We are already booking for January's DFW/Oklahoma and San Antonio routes.

As a forewarning, we will NOT be responding to any messages on the following dates:

November 27th-29th
December 7th
December 23rd-31st
January 1st-2nd

Content during these days will be pre-scheduled posts. 🥰

The first where we did overgrowth work on a fresh canvas (new client).

The second trim was where we still did some overgrowth work on her toes, but also knew what we didn't do last time.

The two in comparison are in different leagues. It wasn't until reviewing the photographs of the hooves post trim that I could really see what I had missed.

As a side note, this was only 8 months between trims. Her ideal schedule looks to be closer to the 4-6 month range.

Life happened, and timing was messed up until this most recent route. Regardless, we got her back into tip-top toe shape!

Hey ya'll!

We will be doing an update of our policies when it comes to dangerous weather conditions.

This is not reasonably safe.

We hydroplaned to the point we had to pause on the way to one of our stops of the day.

We will absolutely trim under shelter when it's raining. We will absolutely trim when it's hot as heck outside. We will absolutely trim when our toes are frozen in our boots.

What we won't do is risk our lives on the road to trim. I trust Michael as the main driver, and I also do not trust other people.

While this is our livelihood, it is not worth our lives. If the next available day, where it's reasonably safe to commute, is not doable for you, we will catch you on the next route.

Postponing a trim another month or even two will not harm anyone. Life happens, but we want it to keep happening.

Thank you for your understanding in advance.

At the beginning of October, our prices increased.

Our trip fees, which are paid at the time of booking to secure our travel and your spot on the calendar, are $150 if outside our local area.

If trip fees aren't paid within 48 hours of the route becoming active, we will not be making the trip, and your appointment will be removed from our calendar.

The trim cost for one pig is now $150, with additional pigs being $70 if all are maintenance levels. Our previous prices put two pigs at $200. Two pigs are now $220.

Overgrown pigs start at $220. It usually takes us the time of two pigs to get through one overgrowth trim. Additional overgrowth is $90 per pig.

The trim cost for 1-2 goats or sheep is $75. For 3-9 animals, it would be a flat rate, regardless of length, of $150. For 10+ animals, it is $15/critter. The average cost for ~15 head is $225.

Those within a 60-mile radius of Houston (College Station, Trinity, Sour Lake, Galveston, East Bernard & Brenham) have a discounted trip fee of $100. Locals with at least 10 heads of goats or sheep have a discount price of $12/head.

We absolutely encourage trim parties. Where you and a friend split the cost of travel and trim cost. We will happily work through multiple animals on the same property as it prevents us from having to pack up our stuff and move down the road.

Yesterday was beautiful! It was everything we could have hoped for. Surrounded by love.

The one thing I would change is giving us at least one day to celebrate being a married couple!

Here are some of the photos Katelyn Goltz formerly of The Mini Pig Farrier captured for us. As well as some of my own creative shots.

Pigs are classified as a prey animal.

Their main line of defense against predators is their mouth and the ability to dart away. Often when we work with pigs the initial grab and flip is the scariest part.

Usually the smaller the piggy the higher pitch the squeal. Though we've had some experiences with larger pigs reaching those high notes.

Typically the more often we see the same pig(s), the more relaxed they become with routine hoof care. Some even doze off and take a nap. Needing to be coaxed awake before the flip back over to their new toes.

Hearing protection is highly recommended! Especially if you'd like to stick around to watch the trim.

Hi! 😊

Please pardon any delay in response for the next few days.

We made the drive up to Dallas today to finish the checklist for the day of our wedding ceremony.

There are a few things that are going to take our focus starting now and probably going into the evening of our ceremony on October 31st.

Our Dallas/Ft Worth route including Tyler/Shreveport starts the very next day November 1st. Those who have paid the trip fee and have received their calendar invite are confirmed!

We will send messages the morning of appointments with our rough ETA and typically a 5-30 minute heads up depending on what is preferred.

Our next post will be a photo(s) of the ceremony!
10/31/24 💍

Thank you for your patience and support. A lot of you are what we consider part of our family.

We make connections that last even after the life of the animals we care for and we couldn't be happier to do what we do.

We primarily book through email. What this means is that we create a calendar invite and send that via email.

The easiest form of contact is text message [(737)-235-8072]. While we can't always answer calls, we will almost always take a moment to respond to texts or respond as soon as we can.

Steps to Booking:

1. Inquire into our services for your area (city, state).

2. We respond with our availability in that area.

3. Respond with the date you prefer out of provided availability and pay trip fee.

4. We add you to the calendar and send you the invite via email.

Once booked, you will typically receive a 24-hour notice via email/calendar. As well as sometimes an hour in advance notice via email/calendar. We will then send out messages on the day of containing our ETA.

Please also note that we do not receive updates via the calendar invite. If you cancel or delete your appointment, because we are the creators of the appointment, it still shows up on our end. You will have to send a text or call us to let us know if you'd like to cancel.

Happy Birthday to Michael!

Without him there would be no us. It is because of him and his support for my dream to stay involved with pigs that we do what we do now.

He's the big 3️⃣0️⃣ today!

P.s. this is a pre-scheduled post. I'll make sure to show him the comments tonight. 🥰

Hi! I want to apologize.

I'm a born and raised Kansan where the most traffic that happened locally was a tractor in the road or train stopped on the tracks. If GPS said it would be an hour travel. It was almost always an hour travel.

While I've been in Texas since April 2022, I still often times forget that traffic in certain areas is absolutely bonkers because typically where we move to is on the outskirts of chaos.

In a perfect world we are running ahead of schedule every time we trim. More often than I would care for, we are at the mercy of traffic.

We schedule on odd hours of the day and if the stops are close enough together we can some times get away with an even hour appointment between regularly scheduled slots.

Just today an hour drive across Houston turned into a 4 hour event. Life is messy, unpredictable, and sometimes inconvenient. We appreciate all the patience and leniency we can get.

Upcoming Routes to end the 2024 year.

Minor updates and tweaking to ensure we catch everyone before the end of the year. Routes won't resume until the 2nd week of January. The first is a DFW route, including Oklahoma from the 10th-13th.

A recommended trim cycle for most pigs is a 4-6 month cycle. If the last trim was done before June, December would be overdue for a trim.

A recommended trim cycle for most sheep/goats is 8-12 weeks or 3-4 months. If the last trim was done before August, November would be overdue for a trim.

Not sure your critter needs a trim? Send us a photo of those toes! 😏 We would be happy to give a recommendation.

As a warning ⚠️ we will be unavailable on the following dates:

10/26
10/31
11/27-29
12/7
12/23-27
12/30-1/3
