New Rescue Announcement đ¨ đ
We are pleased to announce that Independence, a standard Hereford, has joined our family!!!
Independence comes to us from Madras, Or where her mom raised her from a baby to her beautiful 4 year old self. Though she does go against our 4 foot rule standing above 5 feet at the shoulder, we just couldnât pass up helping offer her safety after her mom reached out.
Iâve added Cowerrera as her last name making her Indeprndence Cowerrera, after America Ferrera.
Moolissa is so pleased to have a new friend. We are pleased to have her here too.
â¤ď¸WORK PARTYâ¤ď¸ July 27th, 10am-12pm. We could really use the extra HELP. Be a part of providing a loving safe environment for the sanctuaryâs rescued residents. Please email for more info or to sign up to attend at [email protected]. THANK YOU
We are incredibly saddened to report that Turk Turkleton has passed. He was at least 6 and has been slowing down lately, not calling to me as often. Turk came to us from an animal control abuse case. He was finally taken away after two years of work on the neighborâs part and joined our family. He was never a fan of people, guess why? We had a bond that he shared with no other. He even snuggled in my lap. You will be missed, Turk.

When we had Ghost Princess, you could see all 3 stages here. Itâs intense to think weâve done this to the chicken. We have 3 jungle chickens that look like the left. âFryerâ chickens look like the right and rarely live past 6 months.
https://anyavien.com/non-organic-chicken-contributes-to-hormonal-imbalance-polycystic-ovarian-syndrome-breast-cancer-and-more/
Chickens have grown 364% over the last 60 years.
In the 1940s, chicken was expensive. The average chicken was $3....that's $30 today when adjusted for inflation.
A&P, the country's largest supermarket at the time, wanted to turn this delicacy into a staple.
So, they devised specialized breeding and feeding to grow bigger chickens, faster.
It worked...
The average chicken now grows 2X as fast and weighs 3.5X more.
Chickens are meant to eat a wide range of foods such as grass and bugs, but now they are primarily fed corn and soy to fatten them up as fast as possible.
This not only fattens them, but changes their fat.
The omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of modern chickens can be as high as 20:1, 3X that of pasture-raised chicken.
And, just as A&P wanted, we are eating A LOT of it.
The average American eats 65 pounds of chicken per year.
Chicken is a health food, but I recommend sourcing it from a farm where the chickens get to move out in the pasture, consuming a more natural diet.
It's official! Romeo has been awarded the title of the Worldâs Tallest Living Steer. This
recognition is not just about his impressive height but also serves as an important
opportunity to shed light on the often-overlooked realities of the dairy industry.
Initially, we were hesitant to put Romeo on display. As a sanctuary committed to
providing a forever home to vulnerable animals, exploiting him for his height felt
contrary to our values. However, we ultimately decided to embrace this opportunity to
let Romeoâs story be heardâa story that many are unaware of.
Romeo was rescued directly from a veal crate on a dairy farm, where he had been taken
from his mother at birth. His mother endured immense grief from losing her baby boy, a
tragedy she would experience repeatedly, so that her milk could be used for human
consumption.
Romeo is a rare survivor of the dairy industry. Male calves born on dairy farms are
considered waste byproducts since they do not produce milk. Consequently, they lead
short, unpleasant lives, often ending within 18 to 24 months.
Romeo, a Holstein steer, is now six years oldâa testament to what these animals could become if given a chance.
Holsteins are a large breed, and if more Holstein males were allowed to mature,
Romeoâs height would not be exceptional. However, most do not survive long enough to
reach their full potential. This lack of opportunity highlights the often-hidden cruelties within the dairy industry.
We never intended for Romeo to break records. However, we are thrilled that Romeo can now serve as an ambassador representing all farmed animals. His story has the power to inspire compassion and awareness about the injustices within the meat and dairy industries.
By sharing Romeo's journey, we hope to encourage people to recognize that animals
exist alongside us, not solely for us. His life story is a powerful reminder of the
sentience and value of every animal, urging us to rethink our relationship with them.
We are grateful for the opportunity to spread awareness of Romeoâs journey and to
advocate for the compassionate treatment of all animals. Let Romeoâs story inspire
change and greater empathy for those who share our world.
Shaving problems..
These two arenât usually cuddly so this little moment of nuzzling was very special for me.
Iâm crushed to say Bert has passed over the rainbow đ bridge. I have been working with him every day for months, and I canât express my loss at not seeing him this morning. Over the last three months, we have had the vet out repeatedly for surgery, physical therapy, and check ups. We have spent over $1500 trying to save him.
Please keep us in mind today. If youâd like to contribute to Bertâs vet bill we are on Venmo and Zelle
Hug your loved ones tight
Being broody can be life threatening for chickens because they will not leave a nest, whether the eggs are viable or not, in this condition. That includes to eat and drink. They can also get overheated as this video shows they are hot at 75

Everyone is enjoying the return of spring! The goats are shedding their undercoats and are super itchy! They have destroyed 3 broom head scratchers in the last week
Itâs just so amazing what some patience and love can do. Tiger was considered too feral when we trapped him to come be our barn cat. Now look at him! He loves the kittens and plays Uncle Tiger to all 5
