I must start with a dedication to my uncle, Anthony Prevost, with whom I share a love and admiration for all animals. It started from childhood, when most of my friends turned out to have four legs, fur and possibly a tail. It just so happened the most exciting weekly show was watching Jaques Cousteau; learnig or venturing places I may never go. Always feeling as if I can "hear" the animals. As i

f they "talk" to me. Since i've lived outside of my parents home, I have lived with fur-iends. While being a pet-parent, ONE of the things I've learned is that my furry children never liked my having to leave them for any length of time, let alone board them at a kennel. As a way for me to honor all of my furry companions, I have committed myself to helping other pet-parents keep them in their home, alleviate some of the stress associated with their human's departure.

Please be careful during the Holidays when guests are visiting. Many pets may become stressed & bolt out of an open door.

City of Eugene Animal Services Budget Update:

We are pleased to share some encouraging news following last night's City of Eugene Budget Committee Meeting. Councilor Keating presented a motion to reinstate funding for the animal sheltering contract, and the motion received unanimous support from both the City Councilors and Citizen Budget Committee Members. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, including the Councilors, Budget Committee Members, City Staff, and all those who actively participated by speaking at meetings or sending emails. Your unwavering dedication and hard work ensured the restoration of funding.

This was the first step in securing the continued strength of Eugene's animal services. Over the next month, we will work with the City to finalize the details and identify any potential gaps. Fortunately, the City was able to reallocate unused funds to restore the necessary funding while minimizing the impact on other programs. However, it's important to note that this was a temporary solution to sustain the community's needs for the next two years. During the upcoming 12 to 24 months, we aim to work with City staff and leadership to establish a permanent funding solution.

Please take a moment to express your gratitude by sending a note of thanks to your City Councilor or the Budget Committee. Additionally, please take some time for yourself to cherish the companionship of your animals and reflect upon this accomplishment. The past few months have been emotionally challenging, filled with uncertainty. Nevertheless, we can rest a bit easier knowing that we are once again moving in the right direction.

How to keep pets safe in disasters, emergencies and during holidays:

1) Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with identifying tags.
2) Put your cell phone number on your pets tags.
3) Organize a disaster kit.
4) Check into lodging options or friends & relatives.
5) Consider boarding at your veterinarian's office.
6) Pre-plan in case you are not home when an emergency arises.
7) If you have a pet sitter, they may be able to help.
8) If you evacuate, take your pets. Rule #1: If it isn't safe for you, it isn't safe for your pets.
9) Don't allow your pets to roam loose.

For the holidays:
Tinsel can be deadly to your pet. So are many of the foods and holiday goodies that we have during this time. Pets can also become stressed with all of the holiday activities, so please be mindful of their needs and that they don't bolt out of the house when frightened.

These are just a few of the things that I like to mention but, there are many other considerations.

Fee, Snow, Sharona, Dallas, Samantha, Dazee, Shumba and Sadie wish each of you a safe and happy Holiday!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of the furry family members πŸ’“. Hope you get a special treat!

Expect the unexpected when you walk into an adoption center… You never know who’s going to steal your heart! 😍 Jordan visited our friends at Asheville Humane Society looking for a puppy, ideally a youngster under nine months old. But the universe works in mysterious ways. While walking past the doggie condos in search of his new best friend, Jordan spotted Waylon (who is at least seven years old), and their bond was instant! Jordan's last dog was adopted at 10.5 years old, and he has always had a soft spot for senior dogs. So rather than adopting a puppy, Jordan welcomed this sweet grey-muzzled guy home instead. πŸΆπŸ’›

We wish Jordan and Waylon many years of happiness together! πŸ₯°
