Many people associate the "Appalachians" with the Appalachian Trail, which stretches 2,190+ miles from Springer Mountain in North GA to Mount Katahdin in Maine.

But as you'll see in the map below, the range itself extends even further south into Alabama, and even further north into Maritime Canada.

Overall the Appalachian Mountains encompass 737,000 square miles of land in 13 US States and Canada, and they're estimated to be 480 million years old!

This is Blackjack's dad, Spencer, when he was about 3 months old, in 2016. Never has a puppy had cuter and cleaner white socks than Spencer, at least to me.

Pastured chickens for pre-order. $4.50/lb, usually the birds weigh about 4.5 to 5 lbs. Raised on pasture in mobile chicken pens (Salatin tractors), USDA processed. June 21st pick up chickens are about half sold now, but if you'd like to order a few, message me here or email to [email protected]. If you miss this sale we will have another (the last this year) on July 26. It takes a while to raise broilers properly.

Nutritional benefits of pasture-raised food

FACT is committed to helping livestock and poultry farmers raise their animals outdoors on well-managed pasture due to the numerous benefits associated with pasture-based animal production. Animals living on pasture can move freely and engage in natural behaviors. They also experience lower stress, disease and lameness, as well as fewer reproductive problems. Pasture-based animal production can help to improve soil health and fertility, and mitigate climate change.

In addition, studies consistently show that pasture-raised animals produce nutritionally superior meat, milk and eggs. When compared to food from animals that were fed grain and raised in confinement, food from animals raised on pasture has better fat quality and increased levels of essential vitamins and nutrients.

We never kill predators, or any wildlife. Our only job is, via fences barking dogs, to protect livestock. Beef. First report from a 36-month old steer just processed and picked up about a week ago: "Had a great tenderloin dinner. 👌🙏" And now this morning, this article: "The short summary is that HeartBrand, headquartered in Harwood, Texas, has just begun marketing its cull cows as fed beef. It is said to be tender, juicy and more flavorful than typically young feedlot beef.
It stirred up a lot of thoughts I carry around in my head. Perhaps the biggest is...

Here is the coming battle. GMO soy "meat" masquerading as environmentally friendly versus regenerative ranching. I wish the article were better organized and written, since you really have to read carefully to find the nuggets (most of which are in quoted text). https://civileats.com/2019/06/19/impossible-foods-and-regenerative-grazers-face-off-in-a-carbon-farming-dust-up/?fbclid=IwAR1pmqLDuYGoA5uf5d2CZf84_7WuAvFLy9WAskxatPbGRe6zUIIO7TCmJ8E

The plant-based burger company called regenerative grazing the “clean coal of meat” in a recent report. That hasn’t gone over well amongst carbon ranchers.
