Join us Saturday April 19 for our monthly local dive. We'll be diving at the Woahink training site by the first bridge. The shop tells me they don't have anything scheduled Saturday. The weather should be pretty nice.

Plan on meeting at 10am. No need to have a buddy. We'll figure that out.

We'll provide lunch. If you want to bring some cookies for dessert that'd be great.

If you're interested in coming along, please drop me a note at [email protected] so we have a headcount for lunch, and I can give you dive details. I need to know folks are coming or the dive may be rescheduled.

Hope to see you then.

Jim

Join us next Tuesday February 4 at Dickie Jo's by VRC for our monthly meeting. We have the room from 6-8p and the meeting starts at 630p. Come early for food, drink and conversation!

Carolyn Caporusso from Clean Coast Bonaire will join us on Zoom to tell us about her work focused on cleaning microplastics from the coast. Rick met her last time he was down there and was impressed with her effort and dedication. It's an issue that affects all of us and should be an interesting discussion.

Andrew will also talk about tides and how to determine a good dive time. What website do you use? How close is the station to the dive site? What's the flood and ebb rate? All good things to have figured out before you get in the water!

And we have some cool raffle prizes too!

We are having our annual Holiday Party on Tuesday December 10 at Putter's on Hwy99! We provide the pizza, soda, and two raffles with really fancy prizes.

The party starts at 6p with pizzas hitting the table shortly after. Then you have a chance to play lazer tag, golf, pool, or just hang and chat with your dive buddies. The raffles will happen about 730 or so and we'll wrap up about 8p.

You don't want to miss it!

Hope to see you there!

Bruce is putting together a trip up to Port McNeill at the northern end of Vancouver Island near Port Hardy. This is the southern end of the Browning Passage and the Broughton Archipelago and bucket list diving at its best.

The trip is with Sun Fun Charters out of Pt. McNeill, BC. from October 2-6. This is a new dive charter for the club and comes highly recommended. We are looking at 5 days of 2 tank boat dives. The boat has been reserved and can take up to 8 divers and with a full boat would cost $220CAD (~$165US) per day. Hotel and food are on your own, but there is a bunkhouse available for $25CAD/night. Just bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

There is also a chance for 2 days of diving out of Campbell River on the way up. All of this is true cold water diving - like 42ish. But it is an awesome place!

Check out Sun Fun Charter's page.

Bruce has scheduled the annual Garibaldi - Three Arch Rocks trip for Sunday September 29. This is a great trip to a seldom visited site for hunters and camera folks alike.

The Norwester is a fishing boat they use for diving too. This is not a trip for a first-time boat diver. Ocean diving from this boat can be tricky. Tim Meyer is the divemaster for the trip and all divers will need his approval.

The cost is $215 for a two-tank dive. We can take 13 divers. The boat leaves from Garibaldi at 630am. We need payment in full to secure your spot, so drop a check by the shop. Bruce will have a signup sheet there next week. We have to pay them the full boat price by August 29, so that's kind of the cutoff date to see if the trip will go. If weather shuts it down, you'll get your money back.

If you're interested and have questions, contact Bruce at [email protected] or Tim at [email protected].

Thanks!

Sunday morning is a good time for deep thoughts. And shallow-end thoughts, too.

Today the Oregon Coast Community College / Lincoln City Parks & Recreation SCUBA class helped new divers get their feet wet. Sincere tanks, also, to the crew from Eugene Skin Diver Supply, for your participation.

Jeff Carr is joining us with a great program about how to tie knots. Many knots. Jeff is a lot of fun and you don't want to miss this! We're supplying lengths of rope for everyone so this will be a learning experience!

And Rick has picked up a special grand prize - a Big Blue 1300NP dive light! This is a $179 value and a super dive light.

Hope to see you there!
