Can anyone tell what's wrong with my lilac? It blooms and the flowers immediately die. Also, the lower branches are covered in moss and don't have leaves on them.
For contrast, my neighbor's lilac is gorgeous and blooms for weeks!

Pic 4 is showing just how close they are - within 15 feet of each other, same sun, same water, just on opposite sides of the fence....
Any thoughts?

My first perfect omelette! I've been working on making omelettes for a while now, and this one came out great! Filled with asparagus, sh*take mushrooms, and goats cheese... Asparagus needs a milder cheese, but it was amazing.
What's your favorite cheese to pair with asparagus? What new food skill are you learning?

I got babies!!! Itty bitty seedlings coming up in the greenhouse! How exciting!!

This spring on the homestead!! It's my favorite when everything starts to come to life!
1. I got a new raised bed added, for a total of 5 now.
2. The front is looking good, and stuff is starting to come up - mugwort, elderberries, and a newly planted nootka rose.
3. The pear tree all in bloom - it's even more full of flowers today!
4. The chaos garden - forsythia, spirea, tulips, and daffodils all coming up... Lots of baby calendula in there too, and even asparagus coming up!
5. And my jostaberry - it has never bloomed before, much less set fruit. And it's got flowers this year! So exciting!!

To make enchiladas without breaking the tortillas, simply wrap the tortillas in foil and put in the oven while it's preheating or for about 10 minutes. They'll be soft and pliable. I dip them in enchilada sauce and then fill them before placing them seam side down in the baking dish. Yum yum - dinner will be great!

This week on the homestead!
1. I started making junk again. Jun is like kombucha,but it's made with green tea and honey. It's still getting started, but it's fun to start planning seasonal flavoring!
2. I'm making lots of soup. Trying to stay warm and trying a bunch of new recipes. Yum!
3. My biggest garden task has been to clear out all the briars in the back corner of the garden. And they're gone! Now I just have to slowly remove the cut briars in the yard debris bin.
4. Got some rotisserie chickens, so I can make lots of....
5. ....Chicken broth!! You know, for all that soup!!
So yeah, delicious stuff happening on the homestead. What projects are you working on?

This week on the homestead! It's been such a long time since I've posted, these will be photos from the past month!
1. The new garden in front has an entire first layer of leaves over it, and about 2/3 of the second layer. After this it'll sit and hopefully break down (it'll probably need some amendments)
2. We have a new family member - meet Basil!! He's a 2 year old rescue and he is loving having lots of space for running!
3. Lots of baking, cooking, and canning- I've made cranberry sauce most recently!
4. Some lovely mushrooms growing in the woodchip paths
5. It's definitely soup season - this was an experimental seafood chowder - delicious, but a little too thin.
6. Chocolate crinkle cookies for holiday boxes
Lots of fun stuff going on around here!!
