CATNIP TEA is a safe and refreshing treat for your cat that is made by steeping the leaves of a catnip plant in boiling water, then serving over ice.

Catnip is an inexpensive herb available at most grocery and pet stores.. or you can even grow it in your garden! It is said to target feline “happy” receptors in the brain. Cats often react to catnip by rolling, flipping, rubbing, and eventually zoning out. My cat, Marlon, however, reacts with a loud, abrupt meow followed by a 3 foot horizontal jump, legs flailing in the air. Each cat will have their own unique and equally strange reaction!

Before getting into it, it may be worth mentioning that this recipe is quite flexible, so feel free to adjust it as you’d like! Unless your cat is a trained tea sommelier. In that case, please be sure to follow the recipe exactly as stated.

INGREDIENTS:

1 tbsp dried catnip
2 cups water

DIRECTIONS:

1. Place dried catnip in tea steeper.
2. Pour boiling water over catnip
3. Let steep for 3-5 minutes
4. Drain into vessel and chill or drain over ice and serve.
NOTE: Ensure the tea is completely cooled before serving!

The leftover tea can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Missing Cat 🐈‍⬛ in either EULESS or BEDFORD. After picking up a cat in Euless (Kynette Dr and Evans on Nov. 8th) I drove to the Cottages of Park Place (located behind Northern Tool (183 access road and Park Place).

My car door was open while I moved boxes into it and I believe a black and white Tuxedo cat escaped. YIKES.

I don’t have a photo of this 9-month old cat, but he looks quite similar to the
cat in my post. Should you see a cat like this, please message me or leave a message for me to call you. Kitty will be frightened and will not approach you.

Caring for cats is rewarding, but it can also be expensive. If you feel like costs keep adding up, there are a lot of approaches and resources to help you fund your efforts, so you can get back to what you do best: caring for cats!

5 Ideas to Help Pay for Cat Food

1. Check for surplus cat food at your local animal shelter or even at a food bank or food pantry. Some animal shelters also have animal food banks. See our state-by-state list of animal food banks.

2. Ask your local grocery store or pet supply store to donate broken packages or dented cans. Some retailers will also donate just-out-of-date products, which remain good for a few months longer than the sell-by date.

3. Ask local veterinary clinics if they have surplus or just-out-of-date foods they are willing to donate.

4. Hold a cat food drive. Pick a day and location and publicize your event. Try to involve clubs you belong to or your workplace. You can also see if local high schools or volunteer organizations are interested in holding a drive. Or, ask local grocery stores and pet supply shops if you could put out a bin to collect cat food donations.

5. For seniors and individuals with diminished mobility, Meals on Wheels may offer pet food services, depending on your community’s program.
