Thank you everyone for your continued patience and support. We recently had some unfortunate issues with former board members compromising our organization and our entire mission. We will rise above any negativity and always stay focused on our goal and mission to help rescue and save as many lives as possible! Hi guys we are in serious need of fosters! We have so many babies needing emergency help, but without the help of our wonderful community we just can't do it! These voiceless babies need safe and secure homes to recuperate and start to live somewhat normal lives! 📢📣‼️UPDATE FOSTER FOUND‼️📢📣
Good afternoon guys! We need an urgent experienced foster with this sweet family of 3. They were found in a pile of garbage in an abandon home. Their 3rd sibling did not make it, we got them seen by the vet yesterday. All have URI's and are on medications for it now. They will need it 2xs a day. Mom is doing amazing nursing. And handling her mothely duties so far, she is very sweet and warms up quickly! Foster will be needed until mom has been fixed and kittens are ready to thrive on their own. Please send us a message if you can help, and we will get you an application to foster. Also since we are 100% donation based any donations are greatly appreciated with our most recent medical bills. KusKus and Gretchen would like to wish everyone a Happy and safe 4th of July! Please be mindful today and always, while fireworks are an American tradition to celebrate Independence Day. Some with sensitive ears, such as pets or veterans, can experience high anxiety during the blasts. A lot of dogs, cats, and even birds go missing this time of year. Most frazzled by the fireworks, the decibels from those fireworks are often louder than a jackhammer or plane on take-off. Those fireworks are super scary for dogs, so we need to do our best to calm them down and keep them safe. The best advice, absolutely do not take dogs to public fireworks displays. Try to keep your pets indoors as much as possible over the next week. Make sure to place them in a room where they are comfortable with a toy, bed, and blanket. Play loud, but soothing sounds around the house to offset the big booms outside.
Here are some ways to help you and your pet have a safe 4th of July:

• KEEP PETS INDOORS
Keep your pets in a safe, enclosed room, preferably one without windows. If you're having guests over, consider keeping pets in a room that's off-limits to guests, with plenty of water and food.

• CREATE A CALMING ENVIRONMENT
Surround pets with their favorite toys and other familiar objects. Sometimes the smell of an article of clothing from your laundry can help comfort them. Play soothing music and keep the room as quiet as possible by closing doors, windows, and blinds.

• KEEP AWAY FROM FIREWORKS
Even if your pet doesn't seem obviously upset by fireworks, they can still cause harm to pets. Avoid potential burns, injuries, or possible ingestion by keeping all pets out of the vicinity of fireworks.

• UPDATE IDENTIFICATION
The biggest risk of all this 4th of July is that pets will get loose and become lost. Even if a pet is secured inside, the sound of fireworks can cause them to panic – sometimes even breaking through glass windows. Make sure your pets are microchipped and wearing identification tags. Dogs should have a County License on their collar.❤️🤍💙

Nothing like an evening rush to the emergency vet for Gretchen! This curious girl was out for less than 5 minutes to potty and came back sneezing up a storm. Tis the season for foxtails, so we rushed her down to the ER. Sure enough Dr. Flores at Ferndale Veterinary was able to promptly and efficiently remove one foxtail. Untreated could have caused this poor girl much more serious problems! We could so graciously use the help with the costs of her large vet bill. Unfortunately they required us to pay all upfront, this has definitely made us dig in to our emergency funds. Any and all donations are always so appreciated. 🌾📢📣MORE INFO ON FOXTAILS📣📢🌾
These pointy, barbed stickers that grow so commonly throughout Humboldt County (typically May – December) can lodge in your pet's ears, eyes, nose, paws, and other areas. They can also be swallowed or inhaled. Once they become embedded in fur and skin, they can migrate throughout your pet's body causing further complications. If left untreated, they can cause very serious infections, and may require surgery. Common reactions to watch for: head shaking, paw licking, sudden and continuous sneezing, scratching, redness and swelling at entry site. For the health and safety of your pet, a little prevention goes a long way:
• Keep your pets out of overgrown, dry grassy areas
• W**d out any foxtails you find in your yard
• If your dog has a long, thick coat consider keeping the fur trimmed during foxtail season
• Examine your pet after outdoor hiking or playing – checking ears, nose, paws, and coat thoroughly
• If you suspect your pet has a foxtail, and you're not able to locate or remove it, contact your veterinarian promptly

Sweet Gretchen is ready for a loving foster or foster to adopt home. She is a timid girl, but soo full of love. Gretchen is barely around 2 yrs old now and has been spayed, microchipped, dewormed and is up to date on vaccines including rabies. We are sad to share that the kitty found yesterday has crossed the rainbow bridge.

After careful consideration, after a vet examined the kitty she was suffering of many oral infections, lost teeth, kidney infection, abdominal swelling, as well as various bodily injuries, and upper respiratory issues. Had little to no body fat or muscle. She may not have had much of a chance at surviving any of the procedures and we agreed to euthanize as it was the best option to make her the most comfortable after all she’s been through. Thanks to everyone who donated and offered to help cover portions of the costs. We appreciate you all so very much. Also a huge shout out to Mckinleyville Animal Care Center for helping us during a time of need as many animal emergencies were filling veterinary hospitals.

We have acknowledged the well being of the animals that are being neglected in the area and are organizing a plan to address the situation for the health of the animals and community. In memory of kitty if anyone would still like to donate all proceeds will go to spaying/neutering and testing stray/feral cats in the area. 💕

Happy Furbaby Friday! On this gorgeous Friday we have, Lady Sofie of house Wood. Chewer of everything and healer of broken hearts. Her family doesn't know if there is just 3 things they adore about her, they absolutely love entirely too much about her.. Although she can be a pain in the rear, she is her owners ride or die dog, stays by her side at all times. She is loyal and fun to be around. 💖🐾

Happy Furbaby Friday! This week we have the purrfect Stevie nicks kitty she loves the dogs. Sitting sunning and chirping at birds from inside. He owners love her so much because she gives kisses. After their other cat died, Stevie fills in his place sitting on her owners lap while she does homework. She is the cats meow!

As always we love seeing cute animals, and want to see yours! Every Furbaby Friday (not limited to FURbabies) we will be posting a selected furbaby on our page! If you would like a chance to have your baby posted just send us a message. Include a pic, any fun facts, and what you love most about them. We will be picking a new furbaby per week! You may include multiple babies per submission.

Donations are also so very important. One of the most important part of our rescue is getting our animals well enough to live healthy lives. We make sure each and every single animal is provided proper vaccinations, parasite control, and definitely spayed/neutered. We rarely ship off any of the animals we agree to help and all costs associated with these babies are on us 100%.
