Ticks are eight legged external parasites that feed by sucking blood from animals. They carry many types of disease and transmit these diseases within hours of biting and attaching to an animal or person. When a tick bites, the bite causes an itchy welt to form on the skin, causing the risk of illness such as tick paralysis or a bacterial disease known as Lyme disease which is transmitted within in 24-48 hours. 3-6 hours after the tick latches on Ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever,Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, and Fatal Powasson Virus can be passed. Quickly finding and removing a tick is important to minimize transmission. Having your pet on a year-round flea and tick prevention will reduce the risk of exposure, but it is not always 100% effective ,some products are better than others. Checking everyone and pets in the household as a part of your daily routine keeps everyone safe and healthy. Ticks can be carried into the house on the host and jump from one host to another. To remove a tick, use a pair of fine point tweezers, grab the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull upward slowly to get the tick to release clean the site with peroxide or alcohol to help with itchiness and infection. Improper tick removal may cause mouth parts to break off in the skin possibly leading to infection or gra
