Welcome to the boring side of training! Not all training is flashy and fun and fast. Emmerson struggles with loud noises and fleeing. This week we have put in the ground work and taught her a down stay with hundreds of repetitions. Now it is time to start leveraging that work to help her through her fears. Exposing her to as many sounds as we can until it just becomes background noise. We started with metal bowls this morning and have worked up to vacuuming!
Oakley taking her foundations outside on this beautiful morning! She is progressing through learning heel. You can see her get distracted and self correct her position meaning she is getting a full understanding of what we are asking of her!
Miss Harley practicing her recall today!
Duke
Duke practicing his heel and automatic sit this morning. Once we started slowing his brain down and having him think rather than act on impulse he is really progressing!
Raya practicing her recall and enjoying the beautiful weather ☀️
It may not look like much but for this little guy walking on a leash and engaging is a huge feat. The day he came in he wouldn’t come out of his crate, snarled and bit at any interaction. He panicked on leash and would throw himself on the floor rolling to get it off. Two weeks later and he is heeling beautifully and attentive to his handler. He is excited to come out and work. At 5 months old he has a much brighter future ahead of him.
Dance party with Copper ❤️
Here is how a typical e-collar session with Wrigley looks. He is at the stage of proofing his commands around distractions. Which means he has a clear understanding of each command now he just needs to see it in different pictures. Today he is learning to ignore toys, bones and outside smells. A correction is applied only once in this session when he breaks a sit command. When this happens we always reset the command and give the pup a chance to get it right. That’s where the big learning happens!
Wrigley has graduated to dragging his leash! The final step before off leash heeling.
