Teddy likes to pretend he can fly, haha. I had the pleasure of spending the weekend caring for him and his cat pals Jack & BB, and a sweet old chicken named Jackie. But Teddy is so photogenic. He seemingly hams it up for the camera! I can’t wait to visit them again. The best part of this “job” is the friends I make and being able to remove the stress from both the animals and humans while they’re apart.

This is Dash. I’m house sitting her and another cat. It turns out that Dash and I know each other from her previous life a few years ago as a shelter rescue where I volunteer with Humboldt Animal Rescue Team. In fact, she got her name “Dash” when she had to be removed from a car’s dashboard when she was first rescued. She’s very shy and reclusive, but to the owner’s surprise she warmed up to me as she clearly remembered when I cared for her at the shelter. She hit the jackpot getting adopted by Griff Griffith

Lance is a 13 year old senior who can’t walk too far anymore. It’s so important for dogs (and their humans!) to get out for at least a couple of walks a day. It does you both wonders.

I’m currently house sitting these two sweet Whippets: Kip and Nixie. They’re lucky dogs as their back yard connects with miles of trails through the redwoods in the Arcata Community Forest.

Out on a walk with Bella and Juniper. This is the best job, as it gets me out for a walk too! The owner had to leave suddenly for a family emergency and I was able to help out with some loving pet care. 🥰

The Humboldt Bay Firefighters are proud to announce we will be hosting our seventh annual dog-friendly 5k Walk/Run on Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 10am. The event will take place in Sequoia Park and will benefit a local non-profit animal charity. We plan on supporting a different animal charity each year.

This year we have selected California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA). They work to train dogs for search and rescue applications all over California. It is our goal to raise money for this organization through business sponsors, donations, and race participants. All proceeds will be donated directly to the benefiting animal charity. We ask that your business take part in our endeavor to promote community involvement, healthy lifestyles, and helping animals here in Humboldt County!

This is Shaggy. He’s shy and scared as he just got surrendered for adoption to Humboldt Animal Rescue Team recently. He’s depressed, but I was able to slowly gain his trust and had him purring and being affectionate after a bit. Things happen in life beyond our control sometimes that result in our not being able to care for a beloved pet anymore, and it’s heartbreaking for everyone involved no doubt. But do consider the investment, both emotionally on the animal and human, along with the financial commitment. Your companion pet is for life, and that can mean 15-20 years or more.

We are partnering with The Heart of Humboldt for an Adoption Pop Up this TODAY, August 12th from 12-2 at their location (601 I St # B, Arcata, CA 95521.) We will be there with a couple of adoptable dogs and an info table with volunteer/foster information! We will also have some Lupine sets for sale as well. Jackson and Jake are just two of the ten kittens we're fostering that have been found in dumpsters or trash cans in the last month. These two are only 3 weeks old and two others still had their umbilical cords attached. It takes a lot of resources to get these sweeties well enough to adopt out. We are out of kitten food and kitten litter (they don't do well with regular litter). We like to provide our fosters with everything they need. Ruthie is a sweet girl and looking for a loving forever home. She looks identical to my cat Batty, who I adopted from Humboldt Animal Rescue Team almost five years ago. Batty also arrived at HART with a litter of kittens, all of which were adopted before her. 🥰

We are busting at the seams with animals. Looking for forever homes. Puppies especially have no place growing up at the ranch. He’s gorgeous Anatolian mixed dogs are ready to find their forever families. They are big active dogs who needs families to match. Come down and meet them at the ranch❤️❤️

This is Frankie. She’s super affectionate and available to adopt at Humboldt Animal Rescue Team in Eureka. There’s plenty of other cats and kittens to choose from here or at a shelter near you. Never buy pets from a breeder when shelters are full of dogs and cats needing a loving home.

I’m currently staying with gentle Sadie, a 9 year old rescue, while her people are out of town. She enjoys carrots, going for walks, and going back to bed for a nap after breakfast. We have a lot in common.

I’m gonna miss these three: Desta, the Lab mix mother hen of Pug/Chihuahua-mix siblings Jeffy (back), and Mazie (middle). But I’ll be pet sitting with them for four nights at the end of the month, and our adventures of scoring neighborhood free pile treasures will continue. Yesterday’s jackpot was a 90’s Specialized Rock Hopper mountain bike; if only it was the right size!!

Gone cat fishing…Cedar (Siamese) is such an agile hunter! He has lightning fast reflexes when pouncing on “da mouse.” I’m caring for five cats with various personalities. After nearly a week of twice-daily visits, I finally saw one of them for the first time!

Have some documents that need shredding? Coast Central Credit Union in Arcata is holding a Shred Day this Friday, July 14. The first box is free. The fee for subsequent boxes will go to Friends for Life Animal Rescue who administer the shelter's Emergency Medical Fund. There will also be some fun gift items for sale in the lobby. Stop by between 10 am and 1 pm at 686 F St.

“Buddy! I love this boy with his big brown eyes and sweet personality. In the yard he'll offer a nice sit for a treat and will- get this-immediately come to a loud whistle or call (Buddy Come!) even when he's engaged in an activity. His main forte is being a cuddle bug, at which he excels! He leans in hard and can't seem to get enough pets, back scratches, and "good boys". He's a total sweetheart.” ~Volunteer

I’m currently providing drop-in care for five cats while mom and dad take a little vacation. Cedar likes to rest on my feet (and attempted to use my shoe as a scratching post). I come by twice a day to feed them, provide fresh water, clean up the litter boxes, and provide some love and play time. Not only that, I bring in the mail and turn lights on and off to keep the home “occupied looking.” Get in touch with me if you need some loving pet care to help make your vacation getaway worry-free.
