Today is the celebration of our great country’s independence. Many of us will likely spend the afternoon engaged in a great American tradition, the backyard barbecue. As you sit down to enjoy your perfectly cooked cheeseburger or bite into that hot, buttery ear of sweetcorn, don’t forget to thank one of the most enduring symbols of our independence – the American farmer.

American farmers helped establish American independence in 1776, and they’ve been working hard ever since to preserve that independence for all of us. So, this Fourth of July, don’t forget to reflect on how critically important farmers are to the American dream. You can use it as an excuse to eat that last hot dog or enjoy one more cold beer. You’re just being a patriot, doing everything you can to support our farmers.

Tomorrow is Independence Day and that is a great thing to celebrate but our furry friends do not always feel the same way. Here are some tips to keeping them safe and happy.

1. Make sure they have a Collar with current information and if they have a microchip its is up-to-date
2. Secure your fences and exit doors
3. Leave pets at home with a safe space
4. Keep party/picnic foods out of pets' reach
5. Exercise pets early in the day so they are not full of energy and scared in the evening.
6. Clean up fireworks debris.

Such an easy way to make sure those fur babies are safe this July 4th!

Someone passed this onto us and we thought it was a great idea to share.
With the 4th of July right around the corner we tend to get several calls about dogs getting out, and owners frantically trying to find them. We ask that you make sure your dogs have their collars on, updated contact information on their licenses, or do something similar to the picture below !
We can not scan for microchips. We do not have a scanner, and if the vets offices are closed, we will have to transport any found dogs that are unclaimed to Lake County Dog Shelter.
We love our community fur babies and want to make sure they are safe! 🐾💕
