Thank you Redwood News and our sponsor Lisa Fryrear of Statefarm. What’s in a name? 💚
For Eureka, it means hope.
This little guy was living on the streets alongside unhoused individuals before finding his way to us. When he spent time in a home over the holidays, you could see the questions written all over him: Where am I? Is this real?
Eureka hasn’t had much experience in a home. He paced, sniffed every corner, and took it all in — learning what safety feels like. While strangers can make him nervous at first, give him a little time and his true self shines through: gentle requests for pets, nonstop tail wags, and a heart that just wants connection.
He knows how to go potty outside. He knows the sit command. And when he finally settled, he curled up next to us and fell asleep — the kind of deep, peaceful sleep that makes you wonder if he’s ever truly felt that safe before.
Eureka loves wearing a sweater. He adores having his own bed, toys, and blanket — and he carefully checks on them, sniffing to make sure they’re still there. They matter to him. Stability matters to him.
Other animals can be hard for Eureka at first. He’s afraid, but once boundaries are clear, he settles. Because no one taught him those boundaries early on, when he missteps, it’s almost like he’s saying, “I’m sorry.” He tries to make peace — even offering his toy — with both humans and animals.
More than anything, Eureka wants to belong. And he’s trying so hard.
✨ So what’s in a name?
We named him Eureka because he’s meant to find his first forever home right here — in our hometown. A fresh start. A discovery. A moment where everything finally makes sense.
💚 Come by and meet Eureka.
He’s loving. He’s cuddly. And he’s ready to finally call Humboldt County his forever home. 🐾
