What a pleasure to own and train such an amazing dog!!!
Some things go exactly how you think they will. Some don't. Today was both.
9 months, 2 weeks, and 3 days ago, without ever having so much as housetrained a dog, I brought home a 3 1/2 year old Dutch Shepherd with the intention of making him my first working dog. I had no breed experience, no training experience, and no clue what I was getting myself into.
Today, Jaco and I passed our PDC (on the shoulders of a 5 second third attempt "out") After uncountable hours of learning, thousands and thousands of dollars spent, and more cross country road trips than I care to remember, I'm caught up in a full blown addiction. Looking forward to many more trials with this dog, and with my younger dogs waiting on their turn.
Best boy Bruno. I love this pup nothing bothers him, super smart show him something once he has it.
We got a call Wednesday about a 7 month old puppy named Sita that has bit one of the neighbors and has to be rehomed immediately. It was an ļæ¼incident after the puppy started spiraling after a visit with a bad experience with a trainer. Of course we agreed to go get her because we have a soft spot for a belgian malinois.
Sita has been one of the most heartwarming also heartbreaking dogs we have got in. She had a really bad experience with the first ātrainerā experience she had. Their task that was asked of the trainer was to put basic obedience on her. What they received in quotes from the owner ā Their methodology was to show dominance, be the alpha in the relationship. The only time the trainer was ever to physically touch her was when he threw her to the ground and forced her to calm down from defending me and her home. The other idea was to tie her to the foot post of our chaise so she couldnāt have free rein of the apartment. Lastly him taking her for a walk, involved him dragging her around the kitchen. She basically refused to go with him anywhere. ā
They had a second trainer out to hopefully repair the issues that had created from the first trainer. He was only able to get her to not try to bite him by using the e collar.
On Thursday we first met Sita, she was super defensive barking and lunging at us. William Dodson and I just looked away talked to the owners, very quickly she got quiet and laid down. One of the owners were amazed that she stopped barking telling us āthis is first time with any trainer she didnāt bark the whole timeā. Even with her calming down we knew there was no way we were going to be able to touch her in the house. We asked the owner to take her outside where in about 10 mins she was able to hand the leash off to Will. Will and I both able to walk on her a loose leash able to pet her even give some belly rubs.
Fast forward two days later once she trusted us she is a completely different dog. We canāt wait to s
