We know that some have been inconvenienced by us closing the daycare on Wednesday. We do apologize and want to tell you why.

During the summer we become more of a boarding organization than a daycare. Since June we have worked seven days a week 24 hours a day to take care of our pups while families are on vacation. Around September, while we still have boarding, it’s typically the holidays when we are so incredibly full.

First of all we thank you for supporting our business and allowing us to take care of your dog(s).

So on Wednesday, we have a vet tech coming in to retrain and update our skills on the services we provide. Anyone say nail trims? We also have the behavior spacialist we introduced you to in our last newsletter, coming in to talk to staff about reading signals and body language from the dogs we are caring for either throughout the day or at night. This is part of our employee education program. It makes us better at our jobs.

We typically do this stuff on the weekends but again we are working 24 seven until September so we had no other choice. We looked at which day we had the fewest dogs staying with us and arranged for one of our overnight weekend staff to come and watch over them.

We have had a couple people ask us about purchasing the cots we use in the facility. We can understand why as they are top quality and the dogs love them.

We thought we would see if anyone else is interested. We get special pricing so we could see the number we need and get our price. If interested let us know. They come in small, medium, large, extra large

It's that time again, Kennel Cough has arrived in the area. We have not seen it in the daycare; however, we've found out that one of our regulars has it. If we see a dog cough, we will quickly pull them from daycare, notify you, and ask you to pick up your dog. If you hear your dog cough, please keep them home.

As a reminder, when dogs cough it sounds like they have something caught in their throat. While all the dogs have bordetella shots, just like our flu shots, it depends on the strain whether or not it works.

It is an airborne virus, meaning a dog can walk by your house five minutes before you do, cough and your dog can be affected.

Should you hear you dog coughing, honey is great for their throats.

This usually passes in a week so we'll keep our eyes and ears open and hope you do the same.

Many of you have heard this story. In 2010 I was at an event at Spotless Dog Wash to promote our business, which had just opened. Seaquel was there and this lady came up to me and asked if she could talk to Seaquel. Huh? Sure I said…..

Look in our next newsletter for details of the story, but I walked away as a believer that this woman really was talking to Seaquel. Unfortunately she left before I got her name. The only thing I knew was she described herself as an animal communicator.

I’ve never forgotten the experience and have looked for her often. During my search I’ve gone to others who said they talked to animals, but the information was always pretty generic. I never really believed they were talking to my dog. Then a couple of months ago I found her but she was going on a trip and we weren’t able to connect. Her name is Asia Voigt.

Last weekend, on a whim, I looked and she is back. So, what did we do over the weekend? Seaquel, Picasso and Jet talked with her and trust me, she IS talking to my dogs. Boy, did they talk. The whole story will be in the next newsletter.

We need another re-home of a special dog. When Doug first came to us he was super shy and anxious but has come out of his shell. He is a great dog. He was with his Mom the other day and got startled by a scooter and bit the rider.

He has not had this problem before and the owner (who loves him) says she feels he needs someone more experienced in dogs and dog training to help him. She is concerned about taking him back to the shelter because he has made such good progress. Anyone up for that challenge?

We saw this today at a vet’s office and felt it really needs to be shared. This chart only shows intro up to 2018, but we know it is increasing still. In fact, one of our staff members found a tick on her dog just walking around her very urban and well-mowed neighborhood. Vector-borne illnesses are a nightmare for dogs, so it is always better to prevent them wherever possible.
A great source of info for dog people is petsandparasites.org which provides maps and lots of info for pet owners.
