It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eagle Rock Kennel's matriarch, Bear Hill Ember. She had not been feeling well for the past couple of days and this morning she let us know it was time for her to move on the those great bird fields we all hope are waiting for us. It wasn't to long after her arrival that we realized she was something special and was the lady we were looking for to establish our breeding program. She provided us with 6 puppies in our "A" litter in January 2018. From that initial litter, Alpine followed with the "B" litter in June 2021 and the "C" litter in February 2023. From the "B" litter, Breeze provided us with the "D" litter in April 2024. A total of 34 Large Munsterlanders are out there carrying her genes and from all reports they are doing her proud. Ember would have been 12 years old on August 1 this year, which is a good long life for working dog and she was most definitely a hard working hunting companion. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. We will see her every time we are with one of her progeny.

Good evening everyone. Janice and I have been talking and we decided it was time to start planning for Eagle Rock's "E" litter. The dam will be Eagle Rock's Breeze. So far, everything we've seen from the "D" litter has been all we could hope for. If she stays on her established schedule we expect her to go in heat next November which should result in puppies born in January 2026 and going to their new homes in March 2026. This is our best guess based on her previous 4 heats.

Our list of eligible males is down to 1 with a possible 2nd if he is able to complete all of his testing by then. Both of these dogs are direct German imports with excellent blood lines. Number 1 is Castor III vom Busshof. He was born and imported in 2021. His VHDF - HAE score was 62 - Very Good and last June he passed his VHDF - AHAE with a score of 162 - Very good and that included an 11 in Field Search. At this point, Castor is the most likely choice. I was at both of his tests and was quite impressed with him.

The photo is Breeze on a recent Chukar hunt. A photo of Castor will be coming in the near future. I will update on the progress as things move forward. Don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to get on the list.

Merry Christmas from all the gang at Eagle Rock Large Munsterlanders.

Trying to get these photos was an interesting adventure. Now I understand the phrase “as easy as herding cats!”

They had a professional photographer at the VHDF-Canada hunt test last June in Oregon. I finally got around to getting some photos of Cedar. She did very well in her Hunt Ability Evaluation (puppy test).

On the way to meet up with my brother, we were able to stop in and spend a little time with Eagle Rock’s Diamond “Daisy” and Bert. She’s becoming a beautiful young lady and with Huns in the yard and chukars on the hill behind the house she’s also becoming quite the hunter.

Out for a walk in the season’s 1st real snow fall and the pack are loving it!!

Eagle Rock's Doc (Dex) came up yesterday for some pigeon training. This was his first time with the remote controlled pigeon launchers at 6 months old. We took him through 8 set ups and this is the 1st and the last. There was a marked improvement with each one. I'm looking forward to working with him and Joe even more. We seldom get to see and work with our pups because most of them live far away. This gives us a chance to see first hand how they are coming along and evaluate our breeding program more closely.

The pup is Eagle Rock's Der Max, aka Max, with his person Frank. At just barely 6 month's old, this is Max's 1st ruffed grouse. He traveled from southern CA. to get it. We really love seeing our pups getting out and becoming the true hunting companions they are bred to be like the many, uncounted generations before them.

Another great day hunting sage grouse in Wyoming with Eagle Rock’s Alpine and her daughters Cedar and Clover. The youngsters are getting things figured out. They are transitioning nicely from pigeons to wild birds which is not always an easy transition!

We had a great day. Last night a friend called to ask if we were available to help him find an elk he had stuck with an arrow. It was13 hours after the shot when Eagle Rock’s Alpine started on the track. Just over 1 hour later and a little less than 3/4 mile we found Jim’s 5 point, his first Wyoming bull!

Cedar and Clover (the twins) started their 1st real hunting season on a positive note. We had 5 blue grouse flushes, 2 of them pointed, 2 stop to flushes, and one chased over the ridge top. They each got a retrieve which they handled very well. All in all I’m very happy with these 1 1/2 year olds.

Clover went for training early this morning while it was cool and we had a consistent breeze. Her desire to retrieve often overwhelms her pointing but she is getting the idea.
